TGIF, y’all! I’m super pumped for the weekend. I have a midterm this weekend and a 25 page group paper due next weekend, but I’m excited that I can take a few days to fully focus on that.
I have drastically cut back on my spending, so you may notice a shift in sharing more practical items for the next few months. I’m at the point in saving where I got really excited about a shower cap. (It really was a good shower cap!)
Here are a few things I’ve really loved lately, all under $40.
These blackout curtains ($29)
Five minutes into a four hour Zoom call, I realized that the light coming through my curtains that particular Friday backlit me. I looked like I was zooming in from Heaven. I purchased these blackout curtains from Amazon, and they have been wonderful. My room is so much cozier now, and Willie sleeps through the night. They also look great with my comforter.
This dog paw washer ($20)
If you have a dog that plays outside, this is a gamechanger. Willie has quickly adapted to having a large backyard and absolutely loves digging holes. It was a headache before, but the muddy weather has added yet another level of fun. Instead of pulling grass out from between Willie’s toes, I fill it halfway with water, dip her little paw into the cup, making sure to rub her feet against the bristles as I do, then dry her paw with an old towel.
These zit killing patches ($29) (c/o)
I received a free box of these from ZitSticka back in October in exchange for feedback directly to the brand. I had just tried some pimple patches that didn’t work, so I didn’t have high hopes. However, these are really good.
I deal with cystic acne, typically getting one or two bad ones a month. Retinol purging combined with maskne has done a number on my chin. The KILLA microneedle pimple patches have been super helpful. They’re pricy, breaking down to about $3.63 a patch. But they’ve helped with even the most painful cysts.
This cozy top that can be dressed up or down
My mom gave me this for Christmas, and I’ve been living in it. It is pajama level soft, and it’s one of the pieces in my closet that I reach for the most. You can wear it with any type of legging – cotton, athletic, Spanx – with jeans or even work pants.
I didn’t include a price because it’s on the LOFT outlet website and changes frequently. I wouldn’t recommend paying full price because of that. The gray is available in sizes XS-XL, and it’s machine washable.
These resuable straws ($10)
I don’t love most metal straws. My front teeth are large, and it hurts when I consistently hit my front tooth with a piece of metal, even if it is covered in rubber. My mom bought these for my brother and me for Christmas. #gamechanger The bottom 3/4 of the straw is metal, but the top is silicone. The best part? Dishwasher safe! (It says it on the packaging, and I’ve tested for myself.)
I waffled back in forth a bit on whether I should purchase these since they weren’t technically a necessity, and I’m really glad that I did.
