Honestly, it has been a minute since I’ve charted out goals. I’ve had two on my mind for the past couple of months – buying a home and going back to school – but in all reality, haven’t been putting in the work.
I started a challenge at my office today, and day one’s activity was setting two goals for the month. When I sat down and really started thinking about them, I realized there are definitely more than two things I want to accomplish this month! Last month was an absolute whirlwind with Willie, today provides me an opportunity to get back on track. (I started by deep cleaning my bedroom and bathroom. No more puppy clutter!)
I came up with seven things I wanted to accomplish in different aspects of my life. I’m excited to report back at the end of the month with how I did, as well as what helped me accomplish those goals in case you’re in the same boat.
1. Complete the Healthier You Challenge.
There’s a huge focus on health at my workplace, but I don’t always participate in the challenges. I had a lot of struggles with my energy levels in July, and then adopting Willie took over my world in August. September seems like the perfect opportunity to start focusing on my health again, and I love that this challenge focuses on not just physical health, but mental and relationship health as well. I completed day one’s task, only 29 more to go!
2. Do at least one round of core workout daily.
I don’t really love working out; that’s not much of a secret. Quarantine has really enabled that for me. I’ve found a core workout that I somewhat enjoy, so I’m hoping to do at least one round (preferably three) each day.
3. Journal daily.
I did this for the month of July, and I was so proud of myself. I genuinely wish I would have started doing this as soon as I moved to Nashville. (I read Jessica Simpson’s memoir and I was so inspired by it.) Journaling is what inspired me to start blogging again, so I’m really excited to see what else might come out of this journey.
4. Finish at least two books.
There was a point during quarantine where I’d read two books a week – an audiobook every day while I worked, and a regular book every night as soon as my workday ended. I’ve taken a bit of a break from that due to aforementioned energy issues, as well as the fact that I can’t listen to audiobooks any more while Willie is still getting situated.
(PS – If you’re an avid reader or audibook listener, you really need to download the Libby app. You can access books and audiobooks from your local public library. If you’re in the Nashville area, the selection is incredible.)
5. Pick up more slack around the apartment.
My roommate does most of the cleaning. She’s an early riser and typically unloads the dishwasher first thing in the morning, which I know because I hear her… from my cozy bed. Now that she’s back in the office some, I really plan to take more initiative in helping with the housekeeping. I’m here all day, there’s really no reason that I can’t run a Clorox wipe across the counters and a swiffer across the floors more frequently.
6. Teach Willie to sit.
My friend Amanda started working on the sit command with Willie yesterday, and she took to it so well. We worked on it today, and she’s making progress! Potty training is still a day by day struggle, but this, I think we’ve got. Stay tuned for cute Instagram stories of Willie girl sitting.
7. Take my vitamins daily.
I started Care/of last week. I was able to try it out with a 50% discount, and I realized quickly that those little personalized pill pockets + an app with accountability features has greatly increased the likelihood that I will take my vitamins.
I’m not someone that necessarily loves taking any kind of pill, but I’m day seven of taking five pills and two scoops of collagen daily.
If you’re interested in trying Care/of, you can get 50% off by signing up at this link or by using the code “DG7YU9” at checkout.
Okay, I think that’s plenty of goals for one month! What are you hoping to accomplish this month? Any advice for me?
