What’s new since February? A lot. My world flipped upside down for a minute, and I realized how fortunate I was to have friends and family to flip it right back to normal. I turned 28 and woke up with both an acne breakout and new fine lines. I realized I have no idea where I want to be in 10 years, and how surprisingly, I’m okay with that. I learned that grief is ugly and twisted and beautiful all at the same time and can be triggered by the most random situations. I learned the importance of vulnerability and the importance of public spaces like parks and libraries. I could go on and on. Grab a drink, and let’s catch up!
Drink of choice – Iced Cinnamon Almondmilk Macchiato (with four pumps of sugar-free Cinnamon Dolce syrup & light shavings and drizzle to make it a skinnier version!)
101 in 1001 update – I have knocked out 10% of my list! Your girl is jumping for joy over here. There are two I know I will complete during April. I thought having such a large list of goals might be overwhelming, but it has honestly been pretty nice. If I’m bored or uninspired, I read it for ideas.
Travel – In February, I went to Memphis for the first session of my leadership program. Y’all, it was amazing – both the city and the program. I ate well, I learned a lot, and I visited Graceland – a trip I referred to as “the Pilgrimage.”
In March, I went to Nashville for session two of the leadership program, then drove straight to Greenville, South Carolina in my rental Suburban. (Zero stars, do not recommend that drive at night.) I love Nashville, so it was fun to be back in my favorite city for a couple of days. It was my first visit to Greenville, and I loved it! A dog-friendly city that is walkable and has great food and spirits is a dream come true. The purpose of the trip was to see Patton Oswalt at the Peace Center, and he did not disappoint.
Health and wellness – I graduated from the LIVESTRONG program at my local YMCA, and it was bittersweet. I can leg press 110 pounds more than when I started! My car is being repaired, which has thrown off my gym schedule a bit, so I’m trying to stay active by doing the 100 squat challenge and a couple of other 30 day challenges.
I’ve also been working with a nutritionist. Apparently, my diet is very inflammatory and I should limit gluten… yikes! (But I’m trying!)
The biggest thing was finding out I was majorly Vitamin D deficient. I can’t remember the last time in my adult life I had so little energy, and it was terrifying. If something feels off, I highly recommend going to see your doctor.
Reading – In February, I completed My Year of Rest and Relaxation and When Life Gives You Lululemons. Definitely recommend the latter; MYRR had an incredible ending, but I feel like I wasted a lot of my life to get to those last 10 pages.
I’m currently working through Kushner, Inc., and Dish. I’m trying to work my way through more non-fiction.
Recent Favorites –
- Straight hair – I’m usually all about some curls, but I received this CHI flat iron in a press package and I’ve fallen in love with how chic straight hair can be. I’m actively teaching myself how to use it for curls because back in college, I mastered it with my old CHI.
- The Dropout podcast – I’ve been learning a lot about authentic leadership, and this podcast was brought up. It covers Elizabeth Holmes and the Theranos scandal. I listened to part of it on the drive to Greenville, and it was fascinating. (I enjoyed it much more than the documentary, to be honest.)
- Mamonde Rose Water Toner – I received a sample of this product in the Allure Beauty Box, and I fell in love. It works extremely well, but I cringed when I saw the price point and continued using my drugstore rose water toner… until today! It’s a 21 Days of Beauty steal from Ulta, and is only $11.50! I bought two and stocked up on deo to meet the shipping requirement.

Post is in the works! 🙂 You would love it! I didn’t get to do Peabody this time either because it wasn’t convenient to my plans, but it is on my list for next time 🙂 Hope April is wonderful for you, as well! Love you, A!

omg congrats for completing 10% of your list! I’ve been crossing off a ton of my goals so far as well and it feels amazing. I should break out my CHI flatiron – I’ve had one for years and haven’t used it in a hot second.

i loved when life gives you lululemons – so cute! and you go with your strong self girl, I’m now feeling so inspired! SO many people are hugely deficient in Vitamin D – it’s quite shocking! More studies are coming out the link the deficiency as an aid in development of other illnesses. AH! I’m now taking supplements on the daily!
