Happy Monday, y’all, and happy first day of spring! I doubt that I’m alone when I say that I’m so ready for warmer weather. I worked at my brother’s track meet this weekend, and I actually had to wear two coats. I’m heading to Charleston next week, and I’m so glad that it’s going to be in the 70’s while I’m there!
Today’s post is about updating your spring wardrobe. While I wish I could buy an entirely new wardrobe every season, it’s just not possible. So I focus on buying good staples throughout the year, then update with a few new pieces each season. Everything on this list is something that I can wear for at least two seasons, which definitely helps me justify my purchases to myself and my bank account 😉 Happy shopping!
White button down top • I feel like a white button down top is the second most crisp, classic, and chic piece that a woman can wear. (An LBD would be my number one pick!) I’m really focusing on adding versatile pieces to my closet, and the ways to wear this top are limitless – paired with skinny dress pants or a pencil skirt for work, with dark denim jeans and a funky belt for weekend, or with a printed Lilly Pulitzer skirt for church.
Figure flattering jeans • The jeans I own aren’t really cutting it for me anymore. Nothing against low rise, it’s just not the most flattering cut on me anymore. (Or was it ever?) I’ve started to gravitate toward higher waisted styles, because I feel like they look much better on my frame.
Boat shoes • I travel to South Carolina a few times a year to unwind on the lake. I typically wear my Jacks, but I really need a pair of boat shoes. It’s a country club community, and you can’t wear sandals into the club to eat, so a pair of casual shoes that I can pair with shorts or dresses are pretty high on my spring wardrobe wish list.
Statement tops • I typically wear black and navy skinny fit dress pants, and I love the way they look paired with looser tops, and the more dramatic the better! I’ve been really into flowy silk blouses and tops with bell sleeves. I’d also love some fun, statement tops for weekends.
Dress for wedding season • Wedding season is upon us! When picking up dresses for spring and summer, I try to pick out a couple that are appropriate for weddings. It’s fun picking out things that you’ll wear to celebrate those you love on a special day in their life!
Denim shorts • Last summer, I purchased my first pair of denim cutoffs in years. I really didn’t think that I could possibly wear them, but now I can’t figure out how I went so long without a pair! I’m hoping to pick up a few more affordable pairs this year.
Espadrille wedges • Am I the only blogger that doesn’t own a pair yet?! Because it totally feels like it! Espadrilles were never really my style, but after seeing so many fashion bloggers style them so many different ways, I would love to have a pair in my closet. (PS – These won’t fit in the widget, but they’re dupes for the more expensive Chloe & Marc Fisher wedges…and they’re only $60!)
