Usually when bloggers post about a makeover, it’s a rebranded site. But today’s post is about how I personally received a makeover.
Turning 26 hit me like a ton of bricks. Maybe it’s because I realized I’m now closer to 30 than 20, or the fact that my new headshot made me look a lot older than I actually am (when I’m used to being accused of having a fake ID), but I wasn’t handling 26 well.
On our way to Nashville two weekends ago, my momma and I stopped at ULTA. I lost my mom, and when I found her she was at the front of the store getting an It Cosmetics makeover. It didn’t take much for me to agree to a makeover, as well, because I had been really curious about It Cosmetics products and who turns down having their makeup done?!
While having my makeup done, I met a kindred spirit. I didn’t catch his name, which is really unfortunate because he’s one of the best people I’ve met. Throughout the makeover process, he took the time to explain the products to me – what they do, what’s in them, and the best way to apply them. By the time I was done, I looked and felt like a new person. His positive energy was contagious, he never made me feel pressured to buy, and he really boosted by confidence.
In case y’all have been curious about It Cosmetics products, I wanted to talk about the products I tried and my experiences with them. (Spoiler alert – I want to switch all of my makeup over to this line, because their products are amazing and they donate products to cancer patients! As someone who has been there, done that, and still struggles with the confidence issues that come along with surviving cancer, they have a fan in me.)
Moisturizer – Confidence in a Cream Moisturizing Super Cream
pros & cons: I love that this moisturizer worked well on combination skin! It’s formulated to help fill fine lines, and like I said, 26 hit my skin like a ton of bricks, so anything that can smooth my skin out is good in my book!
applied with: this brush for hygiene reasons, but would typically just be applied with fingers
will I purchase: yes! (I may try the $16 travel sized version first.) (update – did purchase!)
Foundation – Your Skin but Better CC Cream with SPF 50+ (Fair)
pros & cons: The coverage is buildable, which is a pro for me, but may be a con for people who like a little more coverage up front. This foundation is exactly what it says – your skin, but better. And it has anti-aging products and a built in primer. It’s pricy, but a little bit goes a long way.
applied with: Heavenly Luxe Complexion Brush #7 (large end)
will I purchase: purchased immediately & also purchased the brush! (update – repurchased)
Concealer – Bye Bye Redness Correcting Creme
pros & cons: I use this to cover blemishes and redness. A little bit goes a long way, and I try to use as little as possible to avoid looking orange-y since my skin is so fair.
applied with: Heavenly Luxe Complexion Brush #7 (small end)
will I purchase: already have!
pros & cons: I like this product, and I recommend it, but I didn’t feel like it was as much of a standout as some of the other products.
applied with: Heavenly Luxe Jumbo Powder Brush #3
will I purchase: yes, when I run out of the powder that I’m currently using. (I’ve also considered purchasing the pressed powder compact for my bag, since I don’t currently have any pressed powder.)
pros & cons: This is one of my favorite products in my makeup bag. I have a little round face, so contouring is necessary. I typically use really muted blush, but I purchased this palette specifically for the bolder, brighter blush. It makes my skin look really healthy.
applied with: Love Beauty Fully Flawless Blush Brush #227
will I purchase: purchased immediately! (update – also purchased for my mom)
Brows – Brow Power Universal Pencil
pros & cons: After taking off my makeup, I realized that one of the best parts of the makeover was my brows. I had electrolysis growing up, so I will never have the full brows that are so popular. However, you would never know that with this product!
applied with: N/A
will I purchase: yes! Will be my next beauty purchase. (update – purchased)
Eyeshadow – Naturally Pretty Eyeshadow Trio (Pretty Amber)
pros & cons: The gentleman that did my makeup used a palette, but the three colors that he used are in this trio. (Unpopular opinion, but palettes are not my fave because they don’t fit into makeup bags.) I would have never thought to use these colors, but they really brightened my face up!
applied with: Heavenly Luxe No Tug Dual Eyeshadow Brush # 5
will I purchase: rumor has it that this beauty is going to be in my Easter basket, so I’m waiting it out.
Eyeliner – No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner
pros & cons: Unlike other waterproof eyeliners, this one is not dreadful to remove. It seemed to just glide on.
applied with: smudged with Heavenly Luxe No Tug Dual Eyeshadow Brush # 5
will I purchase: maybe. I don’t wear eyeliner very frequently, so it’s hard for me to justify an eyeliner purchase, but I would really love to have the brush.
pros & cons: This makes my lashes look crazy long without using a primer! It was explained to me that this mascara is made to really grab all of your lashes, even the little bitty baby lashes. My eyes are sensitive, so sometimes my eyes are a little irritated by the end of the day when I use this mascara.
applied with: N/A
will I purchase: already did!
pros & cons: This product didn’t bleed, and I really loved that. It also glides onto your lips, which is so much nicer than using a typical lip pencil. The thing I like the most about this product is that the bottom of the pencil is a sharpener. I can’t keep up with a pencil sharpener to save my life, so that’s really appealing to me.
applied with: N/A
will I purchase: maybe… I had a lip liner in my purse that was exponentially cheaper and went really well with it, so I’ll probably stick with that one… at least until it’s time to sharpen it and there’s no sharpener in sight.
pros & cons: I love this stuff. Love it, love it, love it. I’m not usually one for glosses, but I’m making an exception for this one. It goes on like a gloss, but it’s also a stain, so when the glossiness is gone, there’s still color on your lips. My lips can get a little dry during the day, but when that happens I just slap a coat of lip balm on over the stain. (It doesnt’ smear when I do this!) I’ve even used this product during the day and layered a nude, liquid lipstick over it in the eventing, and it brings a cool effect to that.
applied with: N/A
will I purchase: purchased immediately!
I compiled a few video clips on the way to Nashville because I had planned on making a little vlog of our trip. I wanted to share with y’all the little clip I took after getting my makeup done because I was so dang happy thanks to my new friend!
What do y’all think? Have you tried It Cosmetics before?
Also, if I started posting short (less than three minute), casual vlogs, would you be interested?
Happy Friday, y’all!
