When I moved out of my family’s home and into my own apartment, my budget for things that weren’t rent or food shrunk drastically. So when it came time to replace things in my makeup bag, I went straight to the drugstore! I learned a lot about which products I should spend a little more on (foundation – the drugstore ones I tried did not make my skin pretty…) and products that I will probably never spend more than $10 on again (mascara – I have sensitive eyes and have to replace it frequently.) Here are some of my favorite drug store finds, all under $8!
|| LIPS ||
I went out on a limb in early 2014 and tried a bright red lipstick. (I took dance lessons for 15 years, and I was always afraid that red lipstick would make me look like I was on my way to recital.) But after trying it, I’ve become lipstick OBSESSED. It’s really not practical to run to the MAC Counter every time I want to try a new shade of pink, so I’ve found two product lines that I run to – Revlon ColorBurst Matte Lip Balm and Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss. I love the ColorBurst because it is like a little lip crayon, so I can still line my lips. (If you don’t believe me on how amazing it is, my friend Carly at Chicago Prepster is also #obsessed.) I am kind of obsessed with Kate Moss (and by “kind of” I mean borderline unhealthy) so I tried the Rimmel products because of that. The pigmentation is on par with MAC, and the product is slightly scented. I also love that both of these products are moisturizing, because my more expensive matte lipsticks are not.
|| EYES ||
My eyes are so sensitive that it’s ridiculous, and because of that, I am super cautious as to which eyeshadows, liners, and mascaras that I use. I usually use Mary Kay, but I was in a bind and needed some immediately. Enter Maybelline Volum’ Express Mascara. Half of the price, but practically a dupe for Lash Love! I’ve been wearing it for about a week now, and my sensitive eyes are yet to freak out!
|| HAIR ||
If you read my hair care routine post, you know that I can’t stop singing the praises of Organix Biotin & Collagen Shampoo and Organix Biotin & Collagen Conditioner. I try not to use a clarifying shampoo because I don’t want to strip my hair color, and with these products, I’ve never really needed to – no buildup and no additional grease on my oily hair. LOVE THEM.
|| TEETH ||
My work gala is eight days away! To prepare, I’ve started using Crest Glamorous White Toothpaste and Crest Glamorous White Mouth Wash. To be honest, I went into the drugstore to purchase white strips, but those things are expensive, and I really lack the discipline necessary to add yet another step to my bedtime routine. I’ve been using it for a week, and my boyfriend told me my teeth basically glow in the dark now, so I take it that it’s working!
Now I want to hear from y’all – What are your favorite drug store finds? Anything I need to try out?!
