Today I am having an absolutely, positively awful case of the Mondays. My boyfriend went home on Saturday morning, after we had been able to spend almost two weeks together (this is a first, as we have a five hour distance between us.) I hadn’t felt too good towards the end of his visit, but right after he left, my sickness hit me full force. I spent Saturday and Sunday at home in the recliner. Thank goodness for my sweet momma who took great care of me. Today, I found out that my order for the Lilly Pulitzer sale did not go through right after I received a call from my grandmother, who is believed to have dementia, calling to ask for an address that I had given her a week earlier.
Here are a few of my tips on how to beat the Monday blues:
1. Count your blessings.
The problems in my life are so trivial to those of others. Whether you jot it down on a post-it note, in a journal, or just make a mental note, thinking of how small your problems really are in the scheme of things should put a little smile on your face!
My grandmother began showing signs of Alzheimer’s when my grandpa passed away. Lately they have gotten worse, and doctors have asked her to stop driving. As much as it breaks my heart, I am so thankful that my grandma is still alive and remembers me! I can call her and speak to her whenever I want to, and she only lives two hours away. Thinking about that is enough to make my day better 🙂
2. Get a manicure.
Monday manis set your week out to a good start. Splurge & have them shellacked or paint them a cheerful color yourself to offset this gloomy weather!
3. Buy a new lipstick.
Lipstick is one of my favorite things. My current obsession is Russian Red by MAC! Helpful hint: buy a matching lip liner & put it on after you apply your lipstick.
4. Do a good deed.
Something that always cheers me up when I’m having a bad day is doing something nice for someone else! Pay for the coffee of the person behind you at Starbucks or go grab a snack for a co-worker or sorority sister. Who knows… You just might make their Monday better, as well!
5. Spend time with a friend.
My Monday plans usually consist of going to yoga, but today I’m changing up my routine and grabbing coffee with a friend instead. I’m so psyched because we were best friends in high school but lost touch. Tonight we have the opportunity to catch up, and I am beyond excited to hear about her recent mission trip to an orphanage in South America.
What helps you get through Mondays? I’d love to know!
