Summer's Cutest Sandals (Under $100)

Something about warm weather makes me want to walk everywhere.  I live in a downtown area, and things really come alive in the summertime!  I can walk to grab a beer with my friends at our cute new bar, and I can walk to concerts and festivals.  Soon, I'll even be able to walk to a cute boutique fitness studio.  (I'm so excited about this one!  A leisurely one mile walk is a good cool down in my book.)

The problem?  I don't really own flat shoes, with the exception of a couple of pairs of Jack Rogers that are on their last leg.  I feel most confident in heels, so that's what I gravitate toward.  But I'm not about to walk a mile in my heels in the heat, and I don't want to wear tennis shoes or Chacos with everything.  Because of that, I'm on the hunt to find a couple of cute pairs of sandals that will get me through the summer and into the fall without breaking my budget.  In particular, I'd really love a pair that are nice enough to wear to work on casual Friday or that I can throw on with my work clothes after work, and a pair that look cute with dresses.

If you're in the market for some new sandals, I've found 16 on-trend pairs, and they're all under $100!  Happy shopping :)

I didn't want to make a long, drawn out post where I told you what I like about every shoe, how I would imagine it styled, etc., so I created this little widget where you can flip through and get some shoe inspiration with 120 characters of commentary.  Short, sweet, and to the point :)

Happy Friday and happy long weekend!  How are you celebrating the Fourth of July?

10 Things You Might Not Know About Me

Happy Monday, friends!  As I get in the swing of posting blog content regularly, I wanted to take a few minutes to reintroduce myself.  I love getting to know a little bit more about the person behind the blog, and I'd love to get to know y'all a little bit better, as well!

1. I am obsessed with goats.  My goat obsession is bad.  One of the happiest days of my life is when I visited a petting zoo (as a grown adult) and they let me brush the goats.  I will seriously go to the flea market just to look at the goats, and every time I'm there, I try to figure out a way to get a goat.  The best prank I've ever played was when I convinced my brother I was getting a goat off of Craigslist and needed him to help me pretend I found it somewhere.  I've discovered that there are lots of goat farms around the lake I visit in South Carolina, and I'm sooo tempted to ask if I can shoot a blog post at one of them.  Stay tuned ;)

2. I graduated high school early.  At high school orientation, the principal described high school as "the best days of your life."  My mom busted that myth really fast for me, and she was right.  I was never sentimental about high school, and I planned to graduate early the entire time I was in high school.  I graduated a semester early, took some classes at my university's satellite campus during that extra semester, and never looked back.

3. This month, I celebrated six years cancer free.  My battle with cancer is one of the top three events that shaped my life.  I was diagnosed at an age where I felt like I was invincible, and I had a future all planned out.  Cancer threw a wrench into my plans, but it also showed me how resilient I can be and what I am truly capable of.  While I'm not thankful for cancer, I'm thankful for what I learned from my battle.  (Read more about my cancer battle here.)

4.  I kind of fell into my career.  If you asked me 10 years ago what I would be doing at noon on a Monday at the age of 26, I can guarantee I wouldn't have described my current work situation.  But instead, I kind of fell into economic development, which is how most people get into this field.  I wanted a job where I would be doing something different every day and where I could genuinely help people, and I've found it.  (If you're curious about my career story or feeling a little lost in your own, check out this blog post.)

5.  I don't talk about them much on the blog, but I have the world's best friends.  Seriously, they are the best.  It's so comforting to know that no matter what I turn to them with - whether it's something hilariously absurd about my day or something that's heavy - they always have such authentic, amazing responses.  In the past, I would blog away about my friends and tag them on social media from my blog account, but people can get a little nosy, so I stopped doing that for their
privacy.

6.  I will rescue just about any kind of animal.  Right now I have a rescue dog and rescue bird.  When I lived at home, we were always taking care of stray cats.  An injured opossum found it's way into our garage once, and I fed him for a few days until he was ready to leave.  If y'all know of any goats that need rescuing, I'm your girl ;)

7.  I'm in kind of a "woo woo" phase of my life right now.  For the past few years, I have become more and more cautious of the people I'm around and how their "energy" effects me.  People who are negative absolutely drain me, and I refuse to be around people that are perpetually negative any longer than I have to be.  I'm also learning to let go of things that don't serve me - whether that be material possessions, friendships, opportunities, etc.  Life is too short to be around people who only bring you down.

8.  Learning makes me ridiculously happy.  I am one of those people that will use Google and Youtube to teach myself how to do something.  If my schedule and budget allowed, I would go to conferences constantly.  I love reading, and I love solving problems.

9.  I love watching reality TV, but I would never want to be on a show.  I'm convinced that if I was on The Bachelor, I would be the most underwhelming contestant ever.  I also feel like I would be one of the girls that they give a made up profession to.  (PS - My current reality TV favorite is Southern Charm Savannah.  I'm fascinated by Ashley.)

10.  Mentoring is super important to me.  I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for my mentors.  I am forever grateful to the men and women who take time out of their schedules to help me with my life or even just to check in and see how I'm doing.  I also take a lot of pride in mentoring young women who are starting out in their careers.

That's probably more than you ever wanted to know about me.  I hope you'll pay a visit to the comments and tell me a little more about yourself so that we can all get to know each other here!  I have some fun stuff planned for this week, and I can't wait to share it with y'all!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, y'all!  I hope that everyone has had a good week and is gearing up for an even better weekend.  I'm taking a little weekend trip, and I cannot wait.  It's been a long week - I've been sick, working on a deadline, and the air is out in my office - and I cannot wait for a little break.  Today's post is about a few things that have gotten me through this week, and a couple of things I'd love to add to my closet and makeup bag.  Happy shopping :)

Coconut Skin Smoothie  I received a sample of this in my PLAY! by Sephora box this month, and I'm hooked.  I skip face makeup most days, and this is the perfect product for those days.  It's created to brighten, smooth, and visibly blur pores, and it works.  It truly is a "your skin, but better" product.

Liquid Peel (c/o)  There was a bit of a heat wave last week and the air went out in my portion of the office, so my skin has been going crazy.  A few patches are really dry and splotchy, and this is the perfect exfoliator.  It's not harsh, and it feels like you're rubbing a gentle cleanser on your face, you scrub for 20 seconds, then rinse and moisturize.  (And it's on sale for $15!)

Bai Costa Rica Clementine Drinks  I love these drinks.  They've even found a way to make regular coconut water taste delicious.  They only have 10 calories, and they're not carbonated!  I got a little sick earlier this week, and these have been amazing for an extra boost of antioxidants.

Lace Body-Con Dress  How gorgeous is this dress?!  It's $85 and perfect for a girls night out or a fun event!  As my social calendar expands, I've been trying to stock my closet with more black dresses of various lengths and cuts, and I think this is the perfect addition.  (This also comes in white!  How fun for a bachelorette party?!)

Savvy Minerals Foundation Powder  I'm a Young Living Distributor (#diditforthediscount), and I'm really excited that YL released a line of mineral makeup last week!  I say it all the time on the blog, but I'm not big on face makeup.  I think this product would be perfect for days when I want a little more coverage than using the skin smoothie, without the hassle of applying foundation.  (PS - Got my own YL site this week!  Check it out :) )

I want to hear from you - What are your Friday favorites?  And what are you up to this weekend?

Sampling

Happy Wednesday, y'all!  I'm typically pretty set in my routine, but I have been trying a ton of products out lately.  I tell myself it's in the name of blog research, and I try it out so that y'all don't have to do so ;)  I change my makeup and skincare routine up seasonally, and I'm currently gravitating toward very light products and bright products that are a little out of my comfort zone!

For reference, I have combination oily skin that is extremely sensitive, which is what my preferences are based on.  Also, all of these products are from my PLAY! by Sephora subscription.  It's only $10 a month, is tailored toward your needs, and in my opinion, the sample sizes are worth the money.

Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser ($45)  This made my skin go crazy.  My face was red for the next 24 hours and was extra oily for the next couple of days.  I don't typically try new facial cleansers for this reason, but I had good experiences with clay based products, so I thought it was safe.  Surprisingly, it has the texture of a regular cleanser and not a clay based product like the name would imply.

Would I purchase?  No.  It didn't do well with my skin.

Maison Margiela 'REPLICA' Beach Walk fragrance ($126)  This scent wasn't really age appropriate for me,  it felt a little bit too mature.

Would I purchase?  No.

YSL Black Opium fragrance ($69)  I loved this scent!  I usually wear Coco Mademoiselle, which is a very feminine scent.   Black Opium is a little spicier and would be perfect for a summer night out.

Would I purchase?  Yes!  It's on my wishlist.

Kat von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (in K-Dub) ($20)  Everlasting is the perfect way to describe this product.  It's highly pigmented with a matte finish, but doesn't feel dry on your lips.  The color that I received (K-Dub) isn't something that I would have ever picked out for myself, but it's fun for summer.

Would I purchase?  No.  If I didn't already have 12 lip products floating around in my handbag, I would potentially order this in a different color.

NUDESTIX Magnetic Matte Lip Color (in Greystone) ($24)  I was really excited to try this, and I was extremely surprised that it was brown.  Not a deep wine or mauve... brown.  (See swatch above.)  The formula was very long lasting and smudge proof, so I think that I would have enjoyed this in a color that wasn't described as "greige."

Would I purchase?  No.

Benefit Cosmetics the POREfessional Face Primer ($31)  I never bought into the hype around Benefit's pore minimizing products, and that is something that I regret.  My pores are awful, and this could have really helped me out!  I tried this out under my makeup on two extremely hot days, and it held up under the heat.  I was a little nervous because the product is brown, but it blends right in with my fair skin.

Would I purchase?  Yes!  It's on my wishlist.  The smaller bottle is more affordable, so I may go that route since a little bit goes a long way.

First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer ($28)  Out of all of the products I've tried recently, this is my favorite!  I don't wear much face makeup, and I wear it even less in the summer.  This is a moisturizer that brightens, smoothes, and visibly blurs imperfections and leaves skin with a dewy glow.  My only complaint about this product is that it doesn't go very far.  It takes a decent amount of the product to cover my face.

Would I purchase?  Yes!  Planning to purchase this week!  (If you're unsure, it also comes in a smaller, more affordable tube.)

What do y'all think - anything you want to try?!  What have you been sampling lately?

PS - I am working on a summer hair product post, and I'm looking to try a few more products.  If there are any that you've been curious about, be sure to drop the name of the product in the comments!  I want to try things that y'all are actually interested in.

Friday Favorites

This post contains affiliate links.  Thanks for your support of Seersucker Sass!

Happy Friday, y'all!  It feels so good to have fresh content on the blog.  Life has been crazy busy in the best possible way, so instead of being sad about the lack of time to write, I'm just embracing this busy season of life and trying to enjoy it.  (And if you're ever curious about what I'm up to, I have been burning up Instagram stories lately!  Insta username is @seersuckersass.)

Today I am really excited to share with you five of the things that I have been loving lately!

Lazy gal makeup routine  •  Post hair cut, I actually take a little bit of time to get ready in the mornings.  I don't wear a full face every day, and my makeup routines vary by season.  I'm currently really into using four makeup products.  I do my brows with IT Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow Pencil, unless I am feeling extra lazy, and then I use this $3 brow gel.

Lashes are next, and I use IT Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara.

My favorite part of the process is lips.  I line my lips with this lip pencil in Nude Pink (it's only $3.50!), then follow with IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Blush Hydrating Gloss Stain.  It dries into a really pretty stain, and it's not super glossy, so it doesn't look strange with minimal makeup.  It probably seems strange that I wear lip liner on a minimal makeup day, but I learned a few years ago that I don't have pigmentation on the edges of my lips, and this simple step immediately makes my lips look fuller.

If I don't have time to do liner & stain, I use IT Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Color Awakening Hydrating Lip Treatment. (c/o)  I prefer the 'Rose' shade because it's more of a nude than a pink.

Frankincense essential oil  •  I love diffusing this stuff.  I have found it easy to get overwhelmed in this busy season of life, but I diffuse this in the office on days when I'm feeling very anxious, and it truly calms me down.

(Also, I had no idea how expensive this stuff was until I linked to it!  It came in my starter kit, which was $160.  If you want to purchase the oil or want the starter kit, you can do that through me by clicking here.)

Draper James 'Hydrangea Row Hillsboro Dress  •  I'm in love with this dress.  I typically buy black or navy clothing, but I need this little ray of sunshine in my life.  Draper James products are a little pricey, but from my experience, their pieces are extremely well made.

Ulta After Sun Recovery Gel  •  If I don't use this specific sunscreen, I get sunburned.  I keep a bottle of it in my every day bag, but when I got to the pool, I realized that it was no longer there.  So I used a different sunscreen, made sure to reapply, and still ended up with a burn.  Ulta's After Sun Recovery Gel was a lifesaver.  Unlike the aloe products I've used in the past, this isn't sticky or gooey.  And it's only $7!

Good customer serviceI've been having horrible luck with customer service lately.  In the past two weeks, I've had nightmares with Pizza Hut, Expedia, and World Market.  So I took to social media to ask who has the best customer service y'all have ever experienced.  Results:  Chick-Fil-A, Disney, Zappos, Journey, Macy's, Home Goods, Anthropologie, J.Crew, and Nordstrom!

I want to hear from you - What have you been loving lately?

I hope that you have an amazing weekend!
