Think Happy Thoughts: Six Tips for a Happier You

Happy Monday, y'all!  To be really honest with y'all, I have been stressed out more than usual over the past three months.  Over the past few weeks, I've really tried to focus on bringing a little extra sunshine into my life to balance everything out.  If you're in the same boat that I'm in, here are a couple of tips to try out.

Read blogs that make you happy.  One of the things I love most about the blogging world are the connections that I've made.  My friend Jordyn is such a ray of sunshine, so I tend to pop over to her blog when I need a little hint of positivity in my day.  I also really enjoy reading Carly's blog, as she is the person who inspired me to write!

Try essential oils.  I love essential oils.  I know that they aren't for everyone, but with all of the issues that I've had with my health, I wanted to give them a try.  I absolutely love Stress Away oil.  Whenever my day takes a stressful turn, I just rub some on my wrists.  I also really like diffusing Eucalyptus Blue and applying Panaway Oil topically to help when my body aches from stress.  (If you're interested in ordering oils, click here.)

Wear bright lipstick.  I've realized that putting a little more effort into my appearance helps my mood.  When I'm feeling bummed, I reach for my favorite pink lip color instead of the nude or mauve color that I typically reach for at the office.  Not only does it brighten my face up, but it brightens my day up.  (I am so cheesy, but seriously, try it when you are having a bad day!)

Surround yourself with positive people.  If something rough is going on in your life, remember that it's not a burden that you have to carry alone.  Surround yourself with positive and encouraging people.

Cut back on social media.  I love the connections social media has helped me to form, but it can also be extremely overwhelming when you're having a bad day.  The first thing I do when I'm stressed is to cut back on my social media consumption.  If I have something to say, I'll tweet it from my computer, then check my notifications a couple of hours later when I'm taking a break.

Do something that makes you happy.  My dad always tells me this when I'm having a bad day, and it's so true.  Instead of dwelling in the negative, do something positive.  Cook up a feast in the kitchen, write it out, go for a run, hit up a yoga class with your bestie, volunteer... whatever it is that puts you in a better mood (and isn't self destructive!), go do it.

What are you going to do today to put a little extra sunshine into your life or into the world?

  1. These are all such great tips! I really do need to cut back on social media a bit! I feel like it can add a lot of unnecessary pressure and comparison when you get too focused on it! I've also been hearing such great things about essential oils! I need to give them a try!

  2. Ugh I hate to hear that your year has been a bit stressful so far. You are so sweet for turning to my blog for a little positivity now and then, I love coming to your blog for a pick me up so that seriously makes my day. I definitely turn to working out and girl time when I'm stressed or down. A long run or brunch and girl talk always pep me up (even if they can't completely alleviate my stressors). Thanks for sharing your happiness tips lovely 💕

  13. Major yes to all of these, but especially to bright lipstick and limiting social media! You know, people laugh at me when I jokingly quote Elizabeth Taylor, "Put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together" – but there's so much truth to that!

  14. I think just isolating yourself away from technology in general can help. This helps you to listen to your voice. That unconscious voice which seldom speak.

  16. Great tips to be happier! Social media can definitely be a pain and can be stressful, so it's always a good thing to avoid when you can. That's why I try to get all my group/page posts done in the morning, and don't check in until later that night. Has made a world of difference!
