Happy Tuesday, y'all! While I haven't been blogging as much as I would like to, I'm really striving to share content that's honest, helpful, and thorough. I never had many issues with acne when I was in high school, but right around my 23rd birthday, I started struggling with cystic acne. To add a layer of complexity, my skin became extremely sensitive after having my lymph nodes taken out, and I've had countless reactions to skin care products.
Today I'm excited to share with you all of the skin care products that I use. I have a little something for every possible situation! For reference, my skin is combination with an oily T-Zone.
I have extremely sensitive skin that is prone to allergic reactions. When I had a dermatologist appointment with YoDerm last fall, Dr. B recommended that I switch over to this cleanser. It's no frills - unscented, clear, and can be purchased at the drug store. CeraVe removes dirt, oil, and makeup without disrupting the skin's natural barrier, and even helps to repair the skin barrier.
EYE MAKEUP REMOVER: Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover
I've tried a lot of eye makeup removing products, but this one is my favorite. It's cheap, you can find it just about anywhere, and it's gentle on my skin. I prefer using a liquid formula to a makeup wipe because I tend to scrub my skin with a makeup wipe and this removes more product than a wipe. (I apply the remover with these cotton pads, using one for a swipe on my entire face to catch any residue, one for each eye, and one for my lips if necessary.)
MOISTURIZER(S): Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion & Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet
I skipped out on moisturizer for a little while after my allergic reaction because I was honestly terrified to irritate my skin any more, and my skin definitely paid for it. I was using a sample of Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion while trying out other products, but I received a sample of Caudalie's Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet from Sephora as my birthday gift with purchase, and I love it! I've never used a moisturizer quite like it before. The texture is interesting, and it just takes a little touch of it to cover your entire face.
SPOT TREATMENT: Mario Badescu Drying Cream
I popped into Ulta the night before my 26th birthday because I did not want to start 26 off with a big old mountain of a zit on my face. This product came highly recommended by my friends Rachel and Piper, and I was nervous that it wouldn't live up to the hype. Y'all, this stuff is amazing! I only wore it at night, but it blends right in with your skin. Every time that you use this, you will see a decrease in the size of your blemishes.
ANTI-AGING: Solvaderm Stemuderm (c/o)
This stuff is like Botox in a bottle. I have a little line between my eyes that I hate, and I'm starting to get some laugh lines on my forehead. This product actually targets facial structures to discourage repetitive contractions and movements that place stress on the skin and keep muscles feeling relaxed. I use this stuff every night before bed.
I have really sensitive eyes (are you noticing a trend... I am sensitive to everything apparently! haha), so I'm always really careful with the products that I use around my eyes. This product doesn't irritate my eyes, and it is super moisturizing. I love the cream-gel formula, as it's not greasy on my oily skin.
EXFOLIATOR: Drops of Youth Youth Liquid Peel (c/o)
If you want prettier skin in a pinch, this is your product! You use two pumps of the product, which feels like a liquid soap in your hands, massage it into your skin for twenty seconds, and the rinse it off. While massaging, the product forms clumps, and when you rinse it off, your skin looks brighter and feels smoother. Goodbye dry skin! It also really helps with my pores, which are crater like and need all of the help that they can get.
LIP EXFOLIATOR: LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub
I wear lipstick daily, and it stains my lips. If there's still residue after I wash my face, I'll rub a little bit of this sugar scrub on to slough it off. I always follow this up with a slathering of Carmex.
PORES / BLACKHEAD TREATMENT: Mario Badescu Silver Powder
This stuff is the real deal, and it's only $12. I use this once or twice a week, and my pores look noticeably cleaner and smaller after each use. I will be the first to admit that this stuff is kind of a pain... but I promise the results are worth it! You dampen a cotton ball, dip it into the powder container, and then smear it all over your face. Because you are just dipping a cotton ball into loose powder, every time you move, the powder that wasn't wet will fall off of your face. (If you wear contacts, take them out for this!!) Ten minutes are applying, soak a cotton pad in astringent or toner (I use Bliss Daily Detoxifying Facial Toner), and carefully wipe it off. Moisturize, and you're good to go!
Out of all of the products I have tried for pores, this one is my favorite.
This is my first experience with cleansing oil, and I will definitely repurchase upon running out of this one. If you're a cleansing oil newbie like me, you basically massage this oil onto clean, dry skin, then wet your hands and continue to massage it, wipe all of the oil off, then wash your face. My skin goes through periods of dryness, especially when the weather is wild, so I like to use this on those extra dry days.
I want to hear from you - What's in your skin care "arsenal"? How many products are hiding away in your medicine cabinet?
