Monthly Coffee Date

Happy Wednesday, y'all!  I had hoped to share this yesterday as a kind of a last day of the month catch up session type of thing, but clearly that didn't happen.  So happy February 1!  February is my favorite month because I love Valentine's Day, and my birthday hits right in the middle of the month so there are lots of mini celebration sprinkled throughout.

Anyway, I'm so excited to catch up with y'all today!  I hope you'll grab a coffee, spend a few minutes with me, and get me up to date on what's going on in your life, as well!

Working  •  I haven't been blogging nearly as much as I would like to, and that's because I have been working non-stop!  I'm not complaining, I love my job and I'm so thankful for what I get to do and the people I work with.  But some days I just cannot bring myself to look at a screen when I get home after spending the past 8+ hours doing so.  Here's to hoping that the next few months bring more free time and more inspiration!

Meeting  •  I briefly touched on this on Snapchat a few weeks ago, but I'm the Vice President of my community's young professionals organization.  This organization has made me realize what type of organizations I want to be involved with, because there's always so much enthusiasm and interesting, out of the box ideas being shared.

Gala prepping / dieting  •  I'm attending a gala on Friday, and I feel so unprepared.  Haha.  My dress alterations will be ready today, and my earrings came in last week, but last Friday I realized that I didn't have shoes... and I still don't have them, so I guess that will be today's adventure!  (Fingers crossed that I can find something like this.)  I also need to pick up some new foundation since I'm getting a spray tan, so hopefully I don't forget to do that!  Haha.  (If you have any drug store recommendations for me, let me know!)

I've also been "dieting" (aka eating healthy by skipping out on junk food and empty calories) because the fabric on my dress isn't very forgiving, and it is miserable.  I am so used to eating whatever I want and snacking constantly.  So far, I have determined that I'm not a boredom eater, I am actually hungry most of the time.  While I don't love depriving myself from the junk food that I love so much, this has been an opportunity for me to research healthy, filling snacks and meals.  With my health, I need to take better care of my body, and this is a really good way to start.

Planning a birthday trip  •  Traveling is one of my absolute favorite things in the world, so I'm thankful that its how I'll be spending my birthday weekend!  I'm going to take a quick trip to Greenville, South Carolina to look at art and enjoy some amazing, non-diet friendly food.  If you have any recommendations, please send them my way!

(PS - A low key weekend isn't stopping me from buying myself a birthday outfit... What do y'all think of this top?)

Trying something new  •  It's important to me to be as transparent as possible about my health.  One of the things that has helped me cope most with my diagnosis has been people just being totally upfront with me about their experiences, and I strive to be the same way.  Basically, I don't love taking oral medications.  I don't know if it's a physical thing or a psychological thing, but I struggle to swallow pills.  I also have to be very careful about the over the counter medications that I take.  Cold medicine has a way of causing havoc on my entire system.

2016 was the sickest I've been in a really long time.  I felt like I was fighting something off once a month.  My friend Katie is a firm believer in essential oils, and whenever I was around her and wasn't feeling well (which was often), she would always rub some oil on me.  She never pressured me to buy anything, just educated me on how and why the products worked.  I purchased a distributor kit from Young Living last week, and I'm excited to start a journey to better health.  I don't plan to make this an additional income stream or a major focus of my content; I just liked that the distributor kit was a good starting point, and distributors receive discounted product.  If you're interested in Young Living essential oils, check it out here.

Buying  •  I was really good at saving in January!  I made zero Nordstrom purchases (wtf, who am I?!), and the only things I really bought were gala prep items.  Today I'm treating myself to an early birthday gift.  I'm a big fan of Cara Alwill Leyba, and she just released a workbook that follows the life coaching process.  Cara is so glamorous, and if I had a life coach, I would want it to be her, so this is really the next best thing for me!

Okay - wayyy too much about me!  Please give me an update on you!  How's work and/or school?  What have you been up to?  Read any good books lately?  Have any adventures planned?  I want to hear all about it!

  8. Happy almost birthday! :-) No adventures planned here - it's kind of difficult with baby and super cold weather. I was actually looking today into flights to TN, NC or SC. Anywhere but here. Lol! But, I am hoping to do something in March for a 4th wedding anniversary!

It's so cool you got essential oils - do let us know what you think. I use them all the time in the hospital on my little patients (the ones approved for use). They are great for all sorts of things - especially nausea. ;-)

  10. You have to go to Cantina 76 in Greenville!!!! It's a Columbia SC "chain" that they've expanded and it's probably my all time favorite restaurant. (Seriously now that I live in Atlanta and Greenville is 2 hours away I've really considered going just for some tacos!)

  15. I highly recommend CoverGirl Outlast 3 in 1 Foundation - I use it on almost all of my bridal clients! It does have some SPF in it, but I have never had any flashback issues (important to note for a Gala!).

I am a huge fan of essential oils! They really can be a nice compliment to a healthy lifestyle in assisting your body to build up immunity and ward off illness. I use doTERRA, but I know Young Living is right up there in quality too - good choice!

I'm looking forward to hearing about your month! Especially the Gala and your birthday trip :)
