Learning to "Long Arm" and Other Blogging Break Adventures

It feels so good to have fresh content on the blog!  The past couple of months have been really chaotic, and my main focus has been just making it from day to day.  I have a lot of posts I'm really excited to share in the upcoming weeks, but first I wanted to do a brief "catching up" post!  For those of y'all who have wondered, here's what I've been up to.

I spent the last weekend in April in South Carolina, then immediately went to Nashville for a week for work!  (This has been my third trip to Nashville in the past three months.  Can I live there yet?)  It was so nice to have a few days of relaxation and limited cell phone service in South Carolina before attending the week long conference.

The highlight of my Nashville trip was getting to meet my blogger bestie Nicole of Chronicling Home!  Our first stop was a visit to Draper James.  Nicole is one of the best shopping buddies I've ever had - she has an eye for picking things for you that you wouldn't necessarily pick for yourself, and she can help you brainstorm multiple ways to wear a piece.  One of the pieces she picked out for me was an LBD that I ended up purchasing to wear to a gala!  I'm convinced it's impossible to leave DJ empty handed.  Nicole left with some super cute accessories.

No trip to Nashville is complete without a visit to Moda Boutique.  I love stopping in to visit with the boutique's owner, Meredith.  She is one bad ass lady, and I always leave there feeling ready to conquer the world.

My brother is ten years younger than me, and I hope when I have kids that they turn out as awesome as he has.  (I like to think they will since I've played second mom to him his whole life.)  I'm so proud of him; he's intelligent, social, athletic, and an all around good kid.  I've spent the majority of my weekends watching him run, break records, and set PR's.  It's incredible.  At the moment, he's the fastest freshman in the state for the open 400. (!!!!)  He has qualified to run at the state meet, and I cannot wait to watch that in a few weeks!

I launched the biggest project of my career last month!  I had been working with a local marketing company since October to create a video that captured the brand of the community I work in, and we ended up getting the final product a day before our  April board meeting.  Y'all, the video went viral!  Within 48 hours, we had 600,000 views and over 4,000 shares.  (To put that in perspective, the counties I serve have a combined population of around 210,000.)  It. was. insane.

For the past ten months, I've had a monthly professional development day with 29 other leaders in my community.  Along with a retreat in a rustic area in North Carolina and a trip to meet with legislators in Nashville, we spent one day a month learning about our community and what makes it work.  That was truly what I expected to gain from the program - a greater understanding of my community.  But at graduation last Thursday, I left with a greater understanding of myself.  The way I view myself and the world around me has changed, and I'm really grateful that my boss gave me the opportunity (and the funding and the time out of the office) to broaden my horizons.

If you've been following along on Snapchat, you probably saw my eyelash extension before and after shots.  My only regret is that I didn't get them sooner.  It was a spontaneous decision, and I'm really pleased with it.  A lot of y'all have asked me to blog about my experience with them, so I plan to do that in the next few weeks. (I don't want to write about it until I get my first "fill in" set.)

This weekend, I went to a gala with my sorority sister and one of our friends from college.  The live auction was giving us anxiety, so we slipped outside and had a photo shoot.  This is when I was introduced to the long arm.  Apparently you hold your arm really loose and natural, and look over your shoulder, kind of toward the ground.  It's a really great pose when you're holding a wine glass an it's semi-dark outside.  It's also really great if you want to spend an entire evening trying to figure out when you got so old and out of touch.

Nailed it ;)

Now that I've managed to share my life story (and lots of poor quality iPhone photos) with y'all, please take a moment and tell me how you've been!  What have you been into?  Let's catch up!

Happy Monday, my friends!  And if you have any long arming tips, please send them my way ;)

  15. omg SO sorry I deleted your comment accidentally today! To answer your question, YES! The Jack Rogers wedges are comfy. I can't wear them for the entire day, but they don't hurt the arch of my foot--and I don't feel like there's a lot of pressure put on the ball of my foot either. Highly recommended!!! :)

  16. I'm super excited to read your post about your extensions! I've been wanting to try them for a long time.
