My Favorite Trend for 2017!

I don't know about y'all, but leggings are basically one of my favorite things in the world, and I would pick them over jeans 95% of the time.  My personal rule for wearing leggings as pants is to pair them with a top that covers my bottom, but I've noticed recently that I don't have many tops that aren't super casual to pair my leggings with.

Enter my favorite trend for 2017 - the long vest.  It's the perfect piece for when you want to wear leggings as pants with a certain top, but that top isn't necessarily long enough.  The vest only shows the top portion of your top, so you could even pair it with a crop top if you wanted and still be completely covered!  The thing I love most about this trend is that I can wear leggings as pants and be totally work appropriate!  Just opt for a thicker pair of leggings, and you're all set.  I'm also really looking forward to pairing it with an athleisure look and with leather leggings.  It's a piece that can do just about anything!

I'm really optimistic that there will be a little more fashion content on here in 2017, so if there are things that you want to see (i.e. examples of business casual, business professional, work to play, etc.), please let me know!  When my brother and I went to shoot these photos, we scouted out a ton of new locations, and I can't wait for y'all to see them and to also see a little piece of where I come from.

Today I'm off to the Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg area for a late celebration of my brother's 16th birthday!  I'm so excited about a couple of days out of the office and for time spent with family.  If you want to follow along on the adventures, I'll be snapping my favorites (Snapchat username is Seersuckersass) and hopefully sharing them with y'all on the blog, as well.

Happy Wednesday!  What is the one item you see yourself wearing nonstop in 2017?

Best Purchases of 2016

Happy Tuesday, y'all!  I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, or just a great weekend :)  I'm really excited about today's post, as I'm sharing with you my tried & true, favorite purchases of 2016!  2016 was a year that got a really bad rap from a lot of people, but for me, 2016 was the year that I really started to discover who I am (that sounds so cheesy and cliche, and I hate that, but it's so true), and that started to reflect in my wardrobe, beauty, and just purchasing decisions in general.  With the exception of one splurge, every item on this list is currently under $40, so if you're looking to try something new on a budget, you're in the right place!  To create some kind of order, I listed the products by price, along with a little explanation of why I love it.

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel ($3)  •  My mom has taught me the importance of eyebrow grooming since I was too little to even understand it.  While there are so many products out there, I prefer mascaras over gels and powders, as I don't like my brows to look too "done."  This is the nice, grown up version of the clear mascara that I used in high school, and I've heard it's a dupe for much more expensive brow products!

Organix Biotin & Collagen Shampoo & Conditioner ($8 each)  •  I've tried multiple shampoos and conditioners this year, and this is still my hands down favorite.  They're cheap, you can pick them up just about anywhere, they're great on color treated hair, and I'm convinced that they're why my hair grows so fast,

The Body Shop Eye Color Stick - Gold Shade ($9) c/o  •  I love this eye shadow for many reasons.  The stick formula makes application easy, and the glittery gold color can be worn alone or as a base layer.  Unlike other glittery eye shadows, this one isn't overly glittery and can be removed gently with a makeup removing wipe, instead of having to scrub it off.

Stripped ($10)  •  I love this book because it's full of inspirational and empowering poetry.  Whenever I need a little pick me up, I read a couple of pages of this and I suddenly feel ready to take on the world again.

The Best Yes book ($11)
& workbook ($7)  •  Y'all, this book rocked my world.  If you're looking for a great devotional, please give this one a try.  I can't even put into words how much this book changed my life, but I've learned a lot about saying no, and that's one of the best gifts I could have ever been given.

ULTA Contour Kit ($18)  •  I bought this in February when I had literally zero contouring experience, and it has become one of my most trusted products in my makeup arsenal.  If you have zero idea what you're doing, it comes with directions, along with a diagram on the front of the packaging!  (PS - ULTA tends to have coupons, so if you order this, be sure to check for one!)

IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush ($20)  •  I'm a firm believer that make up shouldn't make you look like a different person, just a more polished version of yourself.  This is a product that is applied clear and adjusts to your skin tone.  My favorite thing is that it's super moisturizing, because so many lipsticks are not.

Pineapple Pool Float ($25)  •  This was one of my favorite products of the summer!  I spent a lot of time just floating in my aunt's pool, and this pool float was perfect for lounging... and for Instagram photos ;)  Order now, because they stayed back ordered all summer!

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Mask ($28) c/o  •  The question I get asked the most is if I can recommend a mask.  Y'all, this mask is amazing.  I have oily skin and large pores, and this stuff makes such a difference.  It leaves my skin feeling so smooth.  And the best part is that it only takes a little bit!  I've had my jar forever and barely made a dent in it.

Turtleneck Swing Dress ($30)  •  This dress is so versatile!  I've worn it with riding boots for a casual look, leggings and booties for a board meeting and office open house, and with leggings and fun tennis shoes for a Christmas parade.  It's super flowy and comfortable.  (PS - Size down.)

Diorshow Maximizer 3D Lash Primer ($30)  •  My eyelashes were destroyed post eyelash extensions, and this product has made my lashes go from looking like little nubs to looking long and lovely again.  You apply the product with a mascara wand, so it coats your lashes to look fuller and longer.  Immediately follow with the mascara of your choice, and you'll be amazed at what just one coat will do!

neuENVY Peptide Enhanced Mascara ($32)  •  This was my first mascara post lash extension drama, and I used it in conjunction with neuLash to enhance the effects.  It coats your lashes with fibers, and then you can layer another mascara on top of it if you choose.  It's extremely gentle, and the fibers just rinse right off with a little eye makeup remover.

Roman Numeral Necklace ($40) c/o  •  I received this sweet necklace from Rose Water Designs, and it's engraved with the date that I was declared cancer free.  After a little scare this March, I celebrated five years cancer free this June.  I love being able to wear a piece that's so special to me, and it's also turned out to be a great conversation piece.

Gucci Soho Disco Wallet ($420)  •  This year, I splurged on a Gucci Soho Disco bag and matching wallet.  While the bag wasn't as practical of a purchase, I have carried the wallet every single day.  After going sans wallet for years and just letting my stuff float around in my bag (wtf, seriously, I know), I love having a little bit of organization going in my life.

I can't wait to hear from you - what was your best purchase of 2016?

Weekend Reading // Holiday Edition!

Merry Christmas, sweet friends!  It's hard to believe that Christmas is already here.  I'm spending today helping run a few last minute errands for my family, getting my nails done, and wrapping gifts.  While my Christmas Eves aren't as traditional or festive as they were growing up, I've accepted that things like that change, and I've started to really appreciate having Christmas Eve as a day to chill out, reflect, prepare, and watch super cheesy Christmas movies on Hallmark or Lifetime ;)

I hope that whatever your Christmas Eve plans are, or if you don't celebrate the holiday and it's just a normal day to you, that you're having an amazing day!  If you'd like to do a little reading, I'm sharing a "holiday" version of Weekend Reading - eight links I think you'll enjoy.

A Sequin Free NYE

I know that we're all in full on Christmas mode right now, but one week from today will be New Year's Day, meaning now is probably a good time to order your New Year's Eve party dress!  Back in college, it really wasn't NYE if you didn't have a sparkly dress, or at least some kind of sequins.  But as I've gotten older and my style has evolved, sequins have lost their appeal to me.  If you're in the same boat, then today's post is for you!  All dresses are under $100 and are dresses that could be worn again for a non-NYE occasion.

one // two // three // four
five // six // seven // eight
nine // ten // eleven // twelve

NYE is the perfect opportunity to rock some cut-outs and show a little skin!  Whether you go elegant with a floor length dress, put a fun spin on a classic LBD, or choose to be red hot (or white hot!), you are sure to stand out in some cut-outs!  If you're worried about freezing, consider layering on a faux fur stole!  (This one is only $18!)

Since cutting out a lot of the bright colors out of my wardrobe, playing with different textures has become one of my new fashion favorites.  Velvet is perfect for the holidays, and you'll easily be able to wear this velvet wrap dress or velvet slip dress again.  I really love this shiny gold wrap front dress, as it screams NYE, but could also be appropriate for a night out with the girls, date night, or a fun event.  I'm absolutely in love with this jacquard dress; despite being so bold, it could be styled multiple ways and would look great with tights if you're worried about the weather.

Something totally unexpected:
Anything goes on NYE, so why not try something unexpected?  This embroidered dress with nude lining is sexy in subtle way.  And while navy isn't a color that one would typically consider for NYE, you'll stand out in this gorgeous, understated dress.  If you're a girl after my own heart and love an LBD for every occasion, try one with bold bell sleeves or some faux fringe at the bottom.  Both give a retro vibe and are sure to stand out.

I want to hear from you!  What's your New Year's Eve style?!  Are you all about the sequins or more into a different trend?  What are you getting into this NYE?  As much fun as this post was to put together, I'll be outdoors, so I'll probably be bundled up in a million layers!  Haha.

Happy Wednesday!

PS - I'm currently working on my editorial calendar for the first quarter of 2017.  If you have any post suggestions, please send them my way! Xo

Ask Seersucker Sass (Round Two)

Happy Monday, y'all!  Isn't it hard to believe that Christmas is less than a week away?!  (If you're still shopping, be sure to search for gift guides in the search bar!)

I'm excited for round two of Ask Seersucker Sass.  I always try to be transparent with y'all, so this gives me a chance to answer questions about things you may be curious about.

What kind of dog is office pup?
Office pup is a boxer!  He came from a rescue, so his owner isn't sure if he's a full boxer or if he's a mix.  If you're looking to rescue a boxer pup, I'll be glad to pass along the rescue's info.

Is Francis ever going to come to work with you?
Probably not!  I have a 30 minute commute to work, and traveling with Francis is not a one person job.  She's mischievous, and it's hard telling what she could find to get into in my office.

Any tips for dressing cute when it's warm?
Layers are your best friend if you're always cold like I am!  I wear a lot of blazers in the winter because they look nice and add an extra layer of warmth.  I do the same with ponchos; they aren't as dressy, but they're fun and super warm.  Also, invest in high quality winter accessories like gloves, a scarf, earmuffs, and boot socks, that are cute but also functional.  Thin scarves and dressy socks are cute, but what's the point if it isn't keeping you warm?

How do you do your braided knot?
The braided knot has been getting lots of attention on Snapchat.  There's a full tutorial here.  I've contemplated doing a video tutorial, so if that's something y'all would like to see, just let me know!

Where do you do most of your shopping?
I buy most of my pants from J. Crew Factory and basically everything else from Nordstrom.  (You can't beat free shipping and free returns every time!)  My favorite local boutique is Mimi Mae Boutique.  One of my really close friends, Cori, owns it, so I love popping in to see her and checking out some really unique pieces.  The atmosphere of her store is so cool - lots of pink, including a pink couch, and Gossip Girl is usually playing!  (PS - She ships!)

Current must have beauty products?
This lash primer because it makes my wimpy little lashes so long & this eyeshadow (c/o) in gold because it's super easy to apply and looks good alone or as a base.

What are you binge watching on Netflix?
Gilmore Girls on Netflix and The Mindy Project on Hulu!

Last book you read?
Still working on To Kill a Mockingbird.  My goal for 2017 is to read more than I did this year; I'm embarrassed at how little reading I did.

Biggest pet peeve?
Negative energy.  I will never understand how people can just be so negative all of the time.  It will suck the life right out of you if you let it.

What is the best piece of career advice you've ever received?
Scrub toilets with enthusiasm, and when you're finished, help the people around you scrub their toilets.

Why do you get infusions?
I have a chronic illness in which my immune system attacks a healthy organ in my body.  The infusion suppresses my immune system, which keeps my chronic illness under control, but also leaves me extra susceptible to other unpleasant things like viruses, colds, infections, etc.  Ultimately, the infusions are worth the negative side effects, and I'm really fortunate that I manage to stay as healthy as I do!

How do you make money blogging?
A combination of sponsored posts (receiving money to write about a product) and affiliate links (receiving a small commission when purchases are made using links I have shared).  I only share affiliate links to items that I'm actually interested in, and I always disclose when a post is sponsored.  (Read all about it here.)

What's next for Seersucker Sass?
I'm rolling out something really cool in the first quarter of 2017, and I cannot wait to share it with y'all!  I'm also hoping to step my Instagram game up, because it is the social platform that I enjoy the least.  Last but not least, I hope to switch over to self-hosted Wordpress and invest in some blog services from my blogger bestie Jenny, owner of Confetti Social!

With all of that being said, I want to learn more about you!  I'd love for you to answer any of the questions about that are relevant to you, or answer the following - What is something I would be surprised to know about you?

Happy Monday, sweet friends!

White Elephant Gift Guide

When I tweeted about potentially doing one more gift guide, a few of y'all suggested a white elephant gift guide!  If you're unfamiliar with white elephant gifting, it's a game where anything goes, but you're encouraged to bring a funny gift.  It's often played similar to "Dirty Santa" where you pick a wrapped gift, but also have the opportunity to steal a gift someone else has already opened.  This was a really fun gift guide to create, and also a challenging one because my typical white elephant gift is a six pack and bottle opener wrapped in the fanciest, girliest wrapping paper I can find.  Here are ten fun gifts, all under $20 and all Amazon Prime eligible.

Poo-Pourri ($10)  // Maybe a little crude, but a lot practical.  Here's to hoping whoever wins this one leaves it in the office bathroom!

Dammit Doll ($14)  // My friend Cori's mom bought me one of these with ladybugs all over it, and I kept it at my desk for the longest time.  It's a stress relief doll, and its made to be smacked against things when you're having a bad day!

Dachshund Scarf ($15)  // I laugh my butt off every time I see this.

Watermelon Neckpillow ($16)) // My favorite thing about this gift is imagining that whoever wins is probably sitting at home relaxing and using this thing!

Hand Pencil Cup ($19)  // Kind of creepy, but definitely funny and useful.

Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Wine Snob ($15)  //  Instant fancy.

Dinosaur Soup Ladle ($10)  // I love white elephant gifts that are actually practical!  Bonus points if you include a bag of overpriced, gourmet soup mix with this one.

'All My Friends Are Dead' Book ($10)  // Prepare to LOL while reading this book.

Tabletop Zen Garden ($22)  // Perfect for a workplace white elephant... Here's to hoping that Mr. or Mrs. Busy gets this one!

Farm Animal Butt Magnets ($11)  // My mom gave me the dog version of these magnets, and they are currently on my fridge.  Catching a glimpse of them always makes me smile, especially when I'm having a bad day!

I want to hear from y'all!  What was the best white elephant gift that you ever gave or received?!

Also, I'm gearing up for another Q&A post, so if you have any questions, send them my way!

Happy Thursday, y'all!  We're one day closer to the weekend!

Office to Event Beauty Tutorial

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser.  All opinions are mine alone #CentrumFunFlavors #CollectiveBias

It's the most wonderful time of the year!  I love the holidays, and while I don't love that my schedule becomes a nightmare this time of year, I do love that all of the holiday functions give me the opportunity to see everyone near and dear to me one last time before the year ends.  Because of my commute, I don't usually have a lot of time to get ready between events.  Thankfully, I have Centrum® MultiGummies® to keep me feeling good and a few simple beauty hacks to take me from day to night in less than 15 minutes!

In order to keep things quick and easy after work when I'm in a pinch, I do everything I can in the morning to prepare ahead of time.  For starters, I put my hair in a classic braid that will later be twisted into an updo.

Another tip for easily taking things from the office to an event is to use a primer before applying makeup.  I typically layer on a primer before applying my foundation and a primer before applying my mascara to make my makeup last longer.

Another tip for keeping your makeup in place is to use a powder to set it.

After taking those steps, I apply a neutral eyeshadow, one coat of mascara, and a natural lipstick.  Having a base of simple, natural makeup makes the process of going from day to night so easy!

And there it is - an easy, natural daytime look!

Taking this look from day to night is even less time consuming than completing the day time look!  The first order of business is turning my basic braid into a complex looking braided updo.  I simply twist my braid against the back of my head like I would when creating a bun.  I use about six to eight bobby pins because I like for it to be secure, but the first pin I use is to pin the tail underneath the knot.  From there, I secure the knot by placing pins in a clockwise motion until it feels like my hair is secure against my head.

That will take get you to this point.  I don't worry about perfection or if a few pins are poking out, especially since I spent less than two minutes on it.

After getting my hair out of my face, I get started on "night" makeup.  I apply a darker eyeshadow on the eyelids, then follow up with some eyeliner and an additional coat of mascara.

When the eyes are done, I move on to the lips.  Since I keep the eye makeup pretty simple,  I go a little bolder with the lips.  Plus, a bold lip is a fun touch for holiday parties!

Office to Event Tutorial Centrum MultiGummies

And with that, I'm one step away from ready to run out the door to an event!  Before I leave, I'm always sure to take my vitamins.  I prefer Centrum® MultiGummies®.  Centrum® MultiGummies® makes it easy for me to support my health while enjoying my busy lifestyle.  These multi-benefit multivitamins include 100% or more of essential nutrients, Vitamins B12, D, and E.  B Vitamins aid in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.*  It doesn't hurt that I can purchase them up at Walmart while I'm picking up yet another pack of bobby pins to complete my braided updo.  Healthcare has never been easier!

If this quick and easy "office to event" tutorial seems like something you'd like, I hope you'll give it a try and let me know your thoughts!  And if Centrum® MultiGummies® seem like something you'd like, check out these special offers!

Christmas Wish List

Confession - This is probably the lamest, most practical Christmas list ever.  Maybe even borderline depressing.  But I always enjoy seeing what other people are asking for, and I think it's a helpful shopping tool if a blogger really reminds you of one of your friends.  Something I've really focused on this year is experiences versus material items.  My apartment is small, so my belongings can end up as clutter.  I've become much more intentional about my purchases and what takes up space in my home and my life, and I think this list reflects that.

Bath robe •  Whenever I travel, I love to take advantage of the cozy bathrobes that are hiding out in the hotel closet.  They're so soft and luxurious, but not something I would typically buy for myself.  I am forever freezing, so this is the perfect gift.

Steamer •  Last year, my 15 year old brother asked for a steamer for Christmas, and I made so much fun of him.  This year, I'm thinking he had the right idea, and asking for one as well.  I do not love ironing, and I also love that I can use this on my slip dresses and other items I couldn't imagine taking an iron to.

Vitality Lip Flush •  I found this on a major sale (regularly $20, paired with a full size gloss for $24), so I went ahead and bought it for myself.  I love this lip color because it's one of those magic products that adapts to your skin tone.  So if you have a lipstick lover in your life but have no idea where to start, you really can't go wrong here!

Ugg Slippers •  I've got to have some slippers to go with my bath robe!  Haha.  These will be great for keeping my feet warm when I'm just hanging out at home (seriously, I am somehow always freezing), but also easy to throw on when it's time to take Francis out.

The Widow Clicquot •  This book came out before I could even legally drink champagne, but I've been hearing about it a lot over the past few months and I'm really intrigued.  It's about a young widow building a champagne empire.  Who doesn't love a good success story, especially when it involves champagne?!

S'mores Candy •  This is my favorite candy in the entire world.  It's overpriced, and one of those things that I only indulge in at Christmas time.  (When it goes on sale, though, I buy a few and ration them out.  #embarrassing)

Tunics •  Leggings are my best friend in the winter.  I used to be really into showing leg in the winter, but it's much colder this year than it has been the past two years, so I'm wearing leggings under everything.  On the weekends, leggings are my pants, and  I love to throw a long tunic over them and go.  So I'm hoping to get a couple of tunics in my stocking this year to put on rotation with the others.

If you aren't sufficiently depressed by the lack of glamour in this year's Christmas list, I'd love to hear what's on your list!  Happy Monday, sweet friends :)
