Sun Protection in the Fall?

Fall Sun Protection Essentials

I don't know about y'all, but I spend more time outdoors in the fall than I do in the summer!  I like to explore the changing leaves and take advantage of cooler temperatures.  I'm usually on top of protecting my skin from the sun in the summer, but in the fall I slack off a little bit.  Here are some helpful hints to prevent getting sunburned next time you take a hike to check out the foliage or spend the day outside at an Oktoberfest event!

Sunscreen ||  This one is a no brainer, but I'm super guilty of skipping out on the sunscreen and then spending an hour with my arms and legs exposed at the Farmer's Market.  In the summer, I tend to use spray sunscreen, but I go with a sunscreen lotion in the fall.  (PS - I wear this foundation with sunscreen, and I absolutely love it!)

Polarized Sunglasses ||  Another no brainer.  But who doesn't love a fabulous pair of sunglasses?!  (Even Lilly Pulitzer offers polarized options!)

Floppy Hat ||  Trade out your straw, Derby-esque hat for a felt floppy hat!  I fell in love with this one at Charming Charlie's this week!  (Side note - they have amazing goodies for fall!)

Long Sleeves ||  If I'm going for a hike or a long walk with Franny on a cooler day, I try to stick with long sleeves.  I especially love this tunic because it is SPF 50!  (PS  - You can also get SPF pants!)

Lip Protection ||  Sunburned lips are the worst, but there are lip products with SPF out there for everyone!  Check out this balm or this YSL lipstick!

Other SPF Products ||  I was recently gifted OZ Naturals Tinted Moisturizer with 30 SPF Sunscreen.  It's a broad spectrum tinted sunscreen with Zinc Oxide.  I personally love it as makeup - it's great on your face or even on your body.  (I wish I would have had it when I shot blog photos in a bikini!)  But I recommend applying it only once, use it sparingly, and then use other sunscreens for touch-ups.  The tinted formula got a little messy when I tried to reapply.

I've linked all of the products listed for you in case you need to stock up on SPF essentials:

What are the sun protection products that you can't live without in the fall?

Also - I've been battling major writers block lately.  If there's anything you'd like to see on here, please give me a shout!

I received OZ Naturals Tinted Moisturizer with 30 SPF Sunscreen in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own.  Thanks for supporting brands that support Seersucker Sass.

I tend to forget to use sunscreen in the fall too so I am happy my tinted moisturizer has SPF in it.

  6. SPF pants?! What?! This was such an eye opening post, I honestly don't really think about sun protection at all once I start going back to school just because its not summer anymore.

  14. This post is so important because most people forget about protecting themselves once summer is over. I'm totally in love with those floppy hats but don't know if they'd look right on me. Maybe one day I'll step out of my comfort zone and get one!

  15. SUCH an important post. Fall is like overcast weather-- just cause you don't see the sun doesn't mean it's not burning you!
