Recent Beauty Buys

Recent Beauty Buys Seersucker Sass Blog

Happy Monday!  It feels so good to have a fresh post for y'all.  I've been trying to get this one published for the past week, and it just hasn't been doable with my health and schedule.  But this is a new week, and I'm so thankful for that!

I've been picking up and receiving lots of beauty goodies lately, so I'm tickled to share a little round up with y'all!

Recent Beauty Buys Seersucker Sass Blog

Kenra Platinum Blow-Dry Spray //  My friend Brackins recommended this product to me because my hair is getting long (yay!) and unmanageable (boo!) again.  This stuff is amazing.  My hair was dry in less than 8 minutes, and the texture was smooth and soft.  It's a little pricey, but there's also a generic version that I may try next time.

ULTA Brow Expert //  I won a giveaway from Coming Up Roses, and this was one of the goodies!  I rub a Q-Tip or my finger (super technical over here) over the wax and use it to shape my brows.  Then I follow up with the powder in the spots that need it, usually just the part where my brow starts.

Sally Hansen Microwavable Eyebrow, Face & Lip Wax Kit //  When I was in college, I always had the hardest time getting an appointment to get my brows done.  So I decided I would give it a try myself,; fast forward four years, and I'm still doing it myself.  The wax is $6, and I usually go through about two boxes a year.  Plus, I love the convenience of being able to do my brows at 11 pm or 6 am if that's the only time that works in my schedule!

Swissco Precision Blending Sponge //  Confession - I haven't used this sponge yet.  I bought it with the intention of blending my concealer and foundation, but I'm intimidated and haven't tried it out yet.  Now that I'm able to wear makeup again (see ya, allergies!) I am ready to give it a try.  If you have any tips for me on how to use it, please let me know!

Organix Biotin & Collagen Conditioner //  I've been given the opportunity to try so many different shampoos and conditioners, but I can't bring myself to because I love this one so much, and I'm already getting amazing results.  My hair grows crazy fast, and I completely credit the use of Organix Biotin and Collagen Shampoo and Conditioner.  I go through conditioner so much faster than I go through shampoo, so I only had to purchase the conditioner this time!

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Satin Radiance Lipstick #9 Rose Stilletto #19 Fuchsia

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Satin Radiance Lipstick - #9 Rose Stiletto  (c/o) // I recently received two YSL lipsticks courtesy of Influenster, and I was seriously so happy!  I've swatched the lipsticks above for you.  The Rose Stiletto shade is the perfect "every day" lipstick.  I've been dealing with severely chapped lips, so it makes me happy that this lipstick doesn't make my lips dry out, and also goes nicely layered with Carmex when necessary.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Satin Radiance Lipstick - #19 Fuchsia  (c/o) //  Is it weird to use the word spicy to describe a lipstick?  This hot pink number is perfect for date night or a girl's night out!  It's so pretty and fun and dare I say sexy?

I'd love to hear more about your recent beauty buys!  What have you picked up lately - love it or leave it?

PS - You may have noticed some major changes on my site!  On Wednesday, I'm going to talk more about how Annie helped me completely transform Seersucker Sass into my dream blog!

I was gifted two YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks from Influenster.  All opinions are my own.  Thanks for supporting brands that support Seersucker Sass.

  1. I use the word 'spicy' to describe my lip colors, as well. It makes sense in my mind. I love these pick-ups!

  2. My sister uses that sponge and she loves it. She tried to get me to buy it, but I am a bit intimidated, too! Haha.

  3. Tell us what you think of that makeup sponge when you use it! I've never used one before (even though everyone raves about the Beauty Blender) so I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

  4. All great things! I really like these roundup, haul-type posts.

For your new makeup sponge (and any makeup sponge, really), I would recommend wetting it first. Run the tap warm (whatever temperature it is will be touching your face soon - so not too cold!) and hold the sponge underneath it. Squeeze a few times so that the water actually gets in there, instead of just rolling off. Once it has been thoroughly moistened, turn off the tap and squeeze any excess water out (it will be a lot bigger now - that's normal). Having the makeup sponge wet like this allows you to achieve an air-brushed look by stippling your foundation and concealer, and it also keeps the sponge from absorbing too much of your product. There are a few ways you can apply your foundation and concealer from here: 1. use your finger to dot product all over your face/where you want it and then blend with the sponge by stippling, 2. place product on the back of your hand and dip the sponge in before applying to your face - you can stipple right from the start (takes a little longer), or sort of "paint" it on first by spreading it around with a larger part of the sponge and then stipple once you have spread the product out a bit, and 3. apply fully with your hands (or a different tool/brush) and then do the finishing touches with the sponge by stippling.

I really like makeup sponges, so I hope you enjoy yours!

    1. I forgot to mention that you don't want it to be too wet when applying your makeup, so make sure you really squeeze it out before starting! I usually blot mine on a towel before I begin applying my foundation.

  6. Those lipsticks are gorgeous, and definitely spicy! ;) I really want to try a new blow drying cream- I've played around with a few but I have monstrously thick hair, and nothing really helps. When I grow it out (as I am now), it takes forever to dry and I usually end up wearing it natural. Thanks for sharing such awesome products!

  10. LOVE your new look! Super cute and simple. I have been using Organix for more than 2 years now since I'm allergic to sulfate and if they have a hair product, I buy it. I love the brand! Once I even secretly switched my boyfriend's shampoo and conditioner out for Organix and now he loves it! Did you know they make men's products too?!
