Catching Up //

Y'all, I'm sooo apologetic for dropping off of the face of the Earth after Tuesday.  I've been with my new job for right at two months, and we had our major event last week/weekend.  I wasn't sure what to expect, and I definitely wasn't aware of the time commitment.  So let's grab a cup of coffee & catch up on this Monday morning!

ENTERTAINING GUESTS //   Can I just say thank goodness for sorority recruitment practice back in my undergrad days.  If it wasn't for that, I don't think I would have had the small talk skills necessary to entertain guests this long weekend!  I was seriously so nervous at first that I picked a guest up at the airport and took them the verrryyy long route to the hotel just because I wasn't thinking clearly.  #oops I ended up pulling 16 hour work days, but it was worth it because I got to know some really great people.  Fingers crossed that this is a much easier work week!

MINI-VANS //  If you follow me on Twitter, then you already know that I was assigned to drive a mini-van because of said work event.  At first, I was livid because they are pretty large, and I drive a car.  But when I had to turn the keys in yesterday morning, I was a little sad.  I always said that I would never own one, but if the Lord blesses me with a bunch of kids, I may or may not become a mini-van mom ;)

NASCAR //  I've grown up living within an hour of a NASCAR track my entire life, and, to be honest, when it's race time, I have a tendency to leave town or hole up in my home and try to avoid leaving until it's over.  Part of our work event involved taking consultants to the NASCAR race this weekend.  I had a great time!  We had pit passes, our own suite, and passes for the rooftop bar in the pits.  It was awesome to fully experience a race.

SEPTEMBER ISSUES //  After waking up early to take a few guests to the airport, I recovered by laying around at my aunt's pool, rehydrating, and working my way through the stack of September issues that came in the mail while I was working.  They never disappoint.

THE #AFTERPARTYSALE //  I've been eyeing the Alexa Shift dress since the time my boyfriend took me to our local Lilly store after such a disappointing experience at Lilly for Target.  (Does anyone else still cringe just thinking about it?!)  I couldn't justify spending $200 on a dress that was too short for work, so I walked away.  Every time I've visited a Lilly store since, I've checked the sale racks for it.  When I saw in a blog post that it was up for grabs during the After Party Sale, I snagged it for $69!  My boyfriend and I are meeting up with his parents in South Carolina for Labor Day, so I'm excited to wear it for that :)

ONE YEAR WITH FRANNY //  It's hard to believe that C & I have been Franny's human parents for almost a year now!  It has been so fun watching her personality develop.  Here's to hoping she grows out of her storm anxiety and habit of eating chapsticks from my purse in year two!

MY BEST FRIEND IS MARRIED! //  Colleen got married last weekend, and it was gorgeous.  Colleen was one of the first friends I made in high school, and it's such a special thing to see someone marry the man of their dreams, especially after you know the details of all of the horrible relationships they've been in.

RECENT PURCHASES //  This lipstick, a pair of tassel earrings, and a new pair of Kendra's for Colleen's wedding.

NEW PIERCING //  Confession:  I really want to get a hoop in my cartilage.  Is this a quarter life crisis for me?!  I've seen a few people with the piercings wearing little pave diamond hoop earrings, so if I can find an earring that I like, I'm going for it!

CONTENT PLANNING //   My goal for this afternoon is to plan out content for September, because I'm pretty sure if I blink too quick, it's going to be here.  Anything that y'all specifically want to see?  More fashion?  More lifestyle?  I love hearing your suggestions, so leave them in the comments or email them to me through the contact box!

That was waaaayyy too much about me... I want to know what you've been up to!  Whether it's a paragraph or a sentence, I'd really love an update on your life.  I'll be responding to the comments through email, so if you're a no-reply blogger, now is the perfect time to fix that :)

Happy Monday, y'all!

XX,

SS

  1. The APS was definitely a highlight to my week and quite a rush! Lately, it's been pretty hectic so a nice spa night has been one of my favorite things.

  2. Ah work events are always crazy and tiring but worth it! I've been reading my September issues in bed before I sleep to relax, love the fall inspo! I can't wait to for my BF & I to get a dog, I miss having one around!
I can't wait to be done working retail at Old Navy this weekend, and hopefully working an hourly job like that forever! This is my last week of summer ever, and unfortunately I'll be spending it working. But I can't wait for the school year to start, SO many exciting things will be happening!
    Excited for your content, xoxo

  3. It was so nice to read what you've been up to! I've definitely been doing a lot of content planning and writing lately -- and I have to admit that I think it's paying off!

  5. I've had my cartilage pierced twice (had to let it close for dance a couple years ago) but you can get a little tiny hoop at any tattoo parlor. I know that sounds sketchy, but it's actually better than doing it at a jewelry store or Claire's. A needle is cleaner than a gun, so you are less at risk for infection. Just check Yelp reviews :) Have a great week!

  6. I love hearing your life updates! I kinda feel you on the Nascar thing, I grew up living less than an hour away from Talladega, but had only been to the dirt track (which is next to it). But this past year my husband and I took some of his and my dad's clients to a race and I loved it!

  7. Sounds like you had a crazy but eventful last week!
Right now I am focused on getting all set for grad school to begin at the end of September, finishing this social media campaign for hopefully my future job, and writing content for my blog.

I can't wait to see what's in store for you for September.

  8. Y'all are killing me with all this after sale Lily talk! It was so big at my uni but I can't get it delivered here :(

  9. Not too much about you at all! I love when I get to have a peek into bloggers' lives, especially the ladies I've gotten to know through the Millennial Bloggers Network! I'm wrapping up my nannying job for the summer (tear), shooting some collabs (slash looking for a new photographer), and getting ready to spend next semester abroad in Austria!

PS - Get your cartilage pierced :) It will always close up when you are over it, and you're only young once!

  10. Sounds like you have been a busy bee lately. I am trying to do some content planning among some other things to my blog. School just started again so hopefully I can keep up with everything that I want for the blog and non-blogging life.

  13. I've also sworn off mini-vans! I now drive an SUV, which is the biggest I've driven so far, and am not sure that I could park anything larger! I already struggle. haha I loved hearing all about what you're doing lately, I hope the event went well!!

  14. Where have I been? How did I not know you started a new job?! I feel so behind. And I agree--if sorority recruitment was good for one thing, it sure did teach us how to master small (awkward) talk.

  18. Seriously, September is going to be here and then gone before we even know it. Time is going by so fast right now, and I just want it to slow down, at least a little! Glad you made it through the work event! I live within an hour of a NASCAR track and I do the SAME thing! They attract a certain crowd that isn't exactly my style!

  19. September planning, yikes! I haven't even thought about that yet. I need to get on it cause it's right around the corner! I still haven't picked up any September issues either, I'm a bad blogger!

  20. It sounds like you've been pretty productive! I think I would have been like you if I was told to drive a mini van. I've only driven an SUV once. I'm all about the car life. That's fun that you ended up loving the experience though. I've never been to a NASCAR race, and I don't keep up with it, but I think it'd be so fun to go to one! I'm glad you had an awesome time. Happy one year with Franny! Yay!

  22. Loved this update!! So glad to see what you've been up to during all the craziness! The mini-van thing made me smile. :-) My summer job in high school was at a bakery and sometimes I used to have to drive a mini-van from our store location to the off-site location where everything was baked! At first I was so scared of it, but now I miss that van haha.

  24. I love your honesty about checking out from the blog because of work. I had to do that this month because it's our busiest month for events...and I feel so much better letting my readers know, "Hey, btw, sorry for being inactive for a few days - work took over!" It makes things more personable on your page. Hope you're loving the new job + that the event went great! x Nicole | www.changeanddress.com

  27. Seriously cannot believe you've had Franny for a year now - where has the time gone?! SO happy to hear you're really enjoying your new job and that this big event went off well. I didn't score anything in the After Party Sale, but my mother will be visiting the next few days for an early birthday celebration so I'm super excited about that :) Hope your week is going well!

  28. Once you find a good earring for your cartilage piercing you have to let me know. I had mine pierced in 10th grade but then it closed up. I've been wanting to get it redone with a hoop but I'm too scared! I'll do it if you will ;)

  33. Such a lovely summary post! I passed my driving test on Thursday and I'm now looking for a car and I'm really liking the truck aesthetic (Nissan Navara and the likes) Unfortunately, my parents are looking for smaller cars as a starter car - i feel like a kid again xD Franny is such a cutiee, look at that smile! Congrats to your best friend on her marriage!!

  35. I'm terrified of driving mini vans--they seem so big! Franny is so adorable :)

This looks like an amazing trip! If I ever go to Thailand I'll definitely keep all these things in mind, especially the things not to do...those are sometimes more valuable than suggestions on what TO do!
