Talk Derby to Me

So you may recognize this outfit from Friday's post... This weekend I was supposed to go to a Kentucky Derby party, and it turned into quite the debacle!

I had planned on wearing this dress.  I went to get my nails done to match the dress, and I had picked out the perfect hat to decorate.  The dress was nautical, so I thought that it would be fun to attach a neon pink ribbon & some gold seashells to this hat.   Well, it turns out my Target didn't have that hat.  So I changed my mind to the navy & white striped one, as it would go great with my Lilly Pulitzer Dark N Stormy print shift.  When I was getting things ready for the link up, I tried the hat on with the outfit and loved it.

I was so excited to make my own hat, but it ended with disaster.  I created something, and it just did not look good... at all.  So I scrapped it last minute, collected all of my flowers and ladybugs, and took it down to a local boutique.  I'm so thankful that the owner was so sweet to me; she calmed my frantic self down and created such a gorgeous hat for me!  (And I indulged in some retail therapy while I was there, because what better way to calm your nerves?!)

C & I had a blast at the party!  I tried my first Mint Julep, we enjoyed some beautiful scenery, and we had an excuse to get all dressed up!

How was your weekend?  Did you partake in any Kentucky Derby related activities?

XX,

SS

    The hat came out perfectly.

We didn't do anything Derby related this year, but my boyfriend and I are planning on attending the Derby next year so that's exciting.

  4. The whole outfit is beyond adorable. The derby isn't really a thing here in the Pacific Northwest but I wish it was. I love seeing all of the super cute derby outfits. The hats are SO much fun!

  7. That hat is done beautifully and sounds like you had a really great weekend! Mine was fun but very tiring, cooking for a party of 10 got me really tired. LOL!

  17. No Kentucky Derby for me, I'm not very fond of watching a horse run around a track. I'd rather watch runners do it. Instead I ran, slept, blogged, and ate all weekend. It was a fairly successful weekend.

Last spring I got invited as my best friend's date to the Spring Formal at my former college, and I dressed up Derby Style since it was the same weekend as the Kentucky Derby! I love Derby style outfits.
