Dog Blog: Franny Takes the Purina ONE 28-Day Challenge

I'm feeling like a proud dog Momma today, because Franny had the opportunity to try a new dog food in exchange for a review!  Since Franny's main hobbies are eating, sleeping, and grunting because her eating/sleeping was interrupted, this was perfect for her.

Francis took the Purina ONE 28-day challenge.  As part of that, we were given a little checklist of things to watch for as she enjoyed her Purina ONE SmartBlend True Instinct with Salmon and Tuna Dry Dog Food.

DAY 1:  TASTE  Francis loves food, but she loved this food.  We've gone through three different foods with her as her owners, and this is by far her favorite.  The only issue is that with the chunks of salmon and tuna, she ate them and avoided the kibble.  Meaning she cried for more food when those were gone, and she slung the kibble all over the kitchen.

DAY 7:  ENERGY  Francis definitely had more energy!  It was so fun to see her wanting to play instead of wanting to lay on the couch.  She was actually being a puppy!

My name is Francis, and I like to walk my mom!

DAY 14: DIGESTIBILITY  Kind of a gross thing to say, but one of the reasons I was so excited to try this food for Francis is because it's supposed to help dogs have more stolid stools.  It had the opposite effect... My complex will fine you for not cleaning up after your dog, but some days it was really a struggle.

DAY 21:  SKIN & COAT, BRIGHT EYES After Francis completed the 28 Day Challenge and ate all of her food, C commented on how sad he was that it was over, because it made her coat so shiny and soft and her usually muddy eyes so bright!

DAY 28:  DENTAL HEALTH  I'm not sure how to measure dental health, but anything that helps with Franny's gross little teeth is a win in my book!

As much as Franny loved this food, we won't be repurchasing for two reasons - runny stool & the real meat vs. kibble issue.  We went back to Franny's original food, and she seems quite happy with it.  I do recommend giving this food a try for your dog, though.  Like people, all animals are different and you never know until you try!  You can get a $3 off coupon here.

Do you have a furry friend?  Any products you recommend that I try for Franny?

Happy Friday, y'all!  Be sure to stop by tomorrow for my roundup of my favorite links I've found across the internet :)

P.S. - My RocksBox arrives on Monday, and I couldn't be more excited!

A big thank you to my friends at Smiley360 for providing Francis and I with free product in exchange for an honest review.

  1. My dogs have used Purina Puppy Chow before, but we've never tried this brand. They're currently eating Beneful, but might have to try this next!

  4. Aww she's so cute!
My parents have a dog and he's the pickiest eater alive so maybe I'll recommend this to them.

Also, I want to know about your Rocksbox when it arrives because I have been debating getting my own for a couple of months.

    1. Aww, thank you! Francis is a fatty and will eat about anything, but this was without a doubt her favorite! I think the real meat is what draws them in :) Hopefully he will enjoy it!

    1. Aww, thank you! We've been pretty lucky with her, because we always had such a struggle with finding the right food for my family's dogs. (Francis is such a fatty. She tracks things, and one day she tracked a candy wrapper!) Happy weekend! Xo

    1. That's a smart decision! Puppy parenting is so much easier with two people. C went out of town for two weeks for work training, and Fran about wore me out!

I recommend doing your homework, as well! I wish we had known what we were getting ourselves into with a beagle/coonhound mix ahead of time!

      Happy weekend, love! Xo
