Beach Bag Essentials

I'm super excited to be participating in the Beach Bag Essentials Link Up today!  If y'all ever needed proof that I'm an over packer & the "mom" of my friend group... here's your proof!

Evian Facial Spray ||  This stuff is my favorite product ever.  You can use it for just about anything - a toner, refreshing your makeup, refreshing your skin, etc.  I often feel really sticky after being out in the sun, and this stuff is kind of like a makeshift bath in a bottle for those occasions!

Sunscreen ||  I cannot stress the importance of sunscreen.  I have always used it religiously, but after having melanoma, I am basically a psycho about it.  I really love spray sunscreens because they make reapplication so much simpler.

Facial Sunscreen ||  My foundation has SPF in it, but when I know I'm going to be out in the sun for more than a few minutes, I like to go ahead and use an actual sunscreen product.  I'm big on reapplication, so I choose something that's untinted.

SPF Lip Balm ||  The skin on your lips is important too!  (And sunburned lips hurt like the dickens... oh my goodness.)

Waterproof Mascara ||  I don't like to go anywhere without mascara on, so waterproof mascara is a must for a day at the beach.  Sometimes I like to throw on some bronzer, as well!

Tumbler ||  I love that this one is insulated to keep your drink cold!

Wet Bikini Bag ||   I think this is the part of a beach bag this is most often overlooked.  It's no fun when you have to throw your wet bikni back in the bag with all of your other dry items!

Chambray Tunic ||   Because my surgery scars are on my arms, I prefer to have a cover up with sleeves.  Chambray is nice because it's super light and looks presentable if you decided to pop into a little beach cafe.

Floppy Hat ||  Again, this one goes back to sun protection!  I hate getting sun on my face because I don't want my skin to age.  Floppy hats look cute and shield you from the rays :)

Beach Towel || Isn't this one with the lobster adorable?!

Sunglasses ||  I've been eyeing these foreverrrr!  I'm a big baby and can't stand getting the sun in my eyes, so the bigger the better!

A good book ||  What's more relaxing than reading on the beach?  I like having an actual paper book with me just so that I don't have to worry about the heat damaging my Nook!

Did I forget anything?  What are your beach bag essentials?

XX,

SS

  2. Don't worry, I am a complete over packer too!
I also always like to bring an extra pair of clothes just so I don't have to sit in my wet bathing suit any longer than necessary.
    Love posts like these!

  3. I love Evian spray! I am totally an over-packer for things like beach days, it's not always possible to pick up something you might need when at some of the lakes near where I live, so I like to be prepared. I bring everything you have listed plus I like to bring a granola bar or a portioned bag of nuts because I find that my meals get a little off schedule on beach days and it's nice to have a snack when I'm ready to eat but not ready to leave the beach yet! I also usually bring a big beach towel for laying out on (sometimes a blanket) and then a smaller one for when I dip in the water and need to dry off.

  7. It is so important not to rely on your foundation for sunscreen but use a dedicated one, you are absolutely right.

  9. I am also a dedicated overpacker!! Haha! And like you, I always make sure to throw in a bag for a wet bathing suit. That's one reason why I save my plastic grocery bags. ;-)

  11. Ooh, this list is just what I need right now! I'm going to Mallorca on the 26th and I've been concentrating mostly on what clothes to take, so this is a great reminder of what other bits and pieces I may need! Thanks for sharing :) x

  13. I basically live in my beach bag during the summer, I always have one packed and keep it in my car for last minute pool visits. What I don't have is one of those bikini bags, and now I'm putting it on my list of things to invest in before summer.

  17. This really makes me want to go to the beach! A good book is always an essential for me. Have you read the Cuckoo's Calling? I have it on my bookshelf but still have yet to crack it open!

  18. I've never heard of a wet bikini bag but it's a brilliant idea - much better than a plastic grocery bag, lol! A good book is a total necessity! I always bring a cover-up or sarong, too :)

  22. I should really get the Evian Facial Spray, I've heard such great things about it! Haha, I live near a beach but I rarely go. I'm more an indoor-out-of-the-sun kind of person

  24. Is it bad that I don't think this is overpacked at all? haha! It's the kinda stuff I'd take...except that little 'wet bikini bag' what a great idea! I usually just swim, dry off on the sand and then find somewhere to eat, but when I do have to deal with a wet bikini I always just chuck it in a plastic bag, it's not quite as cute, haha. I think I need one!

  30. I have been so intrigued by those wet bikini bags! I don't know why I never thought of that as a necessity before, but it definitely is. After hearing your struggle with melanoma as well as someone I used to cheer with currently struggling, I'm happy being pale! When I did cheer our coaches always used to tell us to tan because it looked better on stage. I'm so grateful my mom never let me. People need to realize that you don't have to be tan to be beautiful!

  31. Great suggestions - a book, towel, and sunglasses are definitely my top necessities for time at the beach!

  32. How have I never thought about a wet bikini bag?! The worst part is that I have plenty of bags that would work perfectly for this. I'm sorry to read about your struggle with melanoma. Being tan (or burnt, in my case) is not worth it. I'm about to try a self-tanner and I think that will help. If not, I'm still not going to risk it.
