Surprise!

I did it!

I had been on the fence for months about chopping my hair, but when I read about the Kappa Delta chapter at Saint Louis University doing "Kuts for Confidence" to honor two sisters affected by cancer, I knew it was time.

I was diagnosed with cancer two weeks after my twentieth birthday, and it rocked my world.  Multiple surgeries later, the cancer was gone and so was my confidence.  Winter wasn't so hard, but it became impossible to hide the scars when the weather got warmer.  So I wore cardigans for an entire summer.  My mom tried everything, even buying me my first Lilly dress!  So I came up with a plan - I would grow my hair out, and it would cover my scars on my arm, especially in photos.

But I have decided that life is too short to hide behind my hair.  My long hair helped me to gain my confidence again, and now, I hope that it will help another girl gain her confidence.  I'm sending 12 inches of hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and I couldn't be more excited about it!

If you have any tips for short hair, please share them in the comments, email, or tweet them to me @seersuckersass!

  3. That's so great! You're rocking the hairstyle and in giving to someone else, you're in a way continually giving because you're sharing about why here - someone else might come across this and get that boost of confidence they couldn't muster in any other way. You're awesome :)

  5. This is awesome!! You look amazing with the short hair! What kind of cancer, if you don't mind me asking? I'm dealing with a close and personal cancer situation myself right now, it is so hard and 20 is too young to deal with that type thing!

    1. Thank you! I had melanoma, and it had spread to my lymph nodes by the time that they caught it. Feel free to email me if you want to chat (seersuckersass@gmail.com) I know exactly how rough it can be, and I'm happy to answer any questions or just listen :) Sending prayers your way!! Xoxoxox
