My Personal Uniform

A few weeks ago, I shared this article, and it really made me think about my personal uniform.  In college, I had three modes - sorority girl casual (Norts or leggings, oversized tees, and Chacos/neon tennis shoes), super preppy, and Thursday night.  Now that I've graduated, and I work full time, my style has evolved quite a bit.  Sometimes I have to remind myself that it's okay to buy fun clothes to complement my wardrobe full of professional attire.

My uniform is a pencil skirt with some form of button up blouse... Simple enough.  I find that mixing these two wardrobe staples allows me to get away with texture and pattern play!

| shirt:  J. Crew Factory (in gingham) | vest:  TJ Maxx | | pencil skirt:  Ann Taylor (similar & on sale!) | tights:  Target | flats: Tory Burch (similar) | bracelet:  Marley Lilly (c/o) |

This is one of my winter go-tos - fun & warm!  I love the pairing of all of the neutrals, and how the leopard blouse and fur vest make such a basic pencil skirt so fun!

Blazer: borrowed from a friend (similar) | Skirt:  White House Black Market (similar)

When I was still an intern, my mom bought me this skirt to celebrate my first real meeting!  It is without a doubt one of my most complimented pieces.  I paired it with a blazer because I had to be filmed the day this photo was taken, but I usually pair this skirt with a sheer black blouse.

| Boots:  L.L. Bean | Blouse:  White House Black Market | Pencil Skirt:  J. Crew Factory | Tights:  Target | Headband:  Lacoste (similar) |

I walk to work every day, so Bean Boots are a must!  I absolutely love mixing them in with fun skirts and dresses.  I also really love this plaid pencil skirt!  C helped me pick it out on one of our first dates, and that memory makes me love it even more.

Blouse:  J. Crew Factory (Similar) | Skirt: J. Crew Factory (Similar) | Booties:  TJ Maxx (Similar)

I wore this little pencil skirt combo to a friend's engagement party, because the dress code was cocktail casual, and I really had no clue what that meant.  This is one of my favorite pattern plays - floral lace on the skirt and a striped silk blouse!

The next combo I hope to add to my wardrobe is this leopard print pencil skirt  + a black cashmere sweater or a black lace pencil skirt + this sheer, floral blouse.

I can't wait to hear what your personal uniform is!  Leave it in the comments or tweet it to me - @seersuckersass :)  Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday!

  1. I love the pencil skirt look! I have a few of them but not nearly enough. The J Crew blouse worn at the cocktail party is so cute.

  2. I love me a good pencil skirt - that last look is my favorite! I would say my personal uniform tends to be a looser fitting top, leggings or jeans, and some sort of flat shoe. That is, until the summer anyways! (But really, counting down the days)

  3. Pencil skirts are definitely a fun and easy look to work with! It's funny because my personal uniform sort of depends on what I'm doing/willing to do that day, awful huh? Jeans, Sperrys or Jack Rogers, and a cute top are my go-to during our warm weather months here in Arizona!

  4. I like your personal uniform! It's what I wear to work when I'm not wearing my own personal uniform.

My personal uniform is a dress with tights and a cardigan. This can be both professional and casual, depending on the pieces you add to it. Even the same dress and tights completely transforms. For work, I usually go with a well-fitting cardigan and a more structured dress, but sometimes I go with a girlier skirt on the dress but pair it with a blazer to balance it out. To make the look more casual, I pair the dress with a more slouchy cardigan and usually some sort of scarf. Jewelery makes a difference too. For work I stick to small, dainty pieces or hardly anything at all, but when I'm going casual I almost always toss on a long necklace or layer a couple together.
