Last Minute New Years Eve Ideas!

I've always loved New Years Eve!  This is generally one day of the year that I refuse to stay in, but after such a wild and lively Christmas, I'm excited for a low key NYE.  If you're still undecided about what to wear, check out these articles I wrote for Makeoverly:

And the one thing that I find to be a non-negotiable on New Years Eve?

For less than $5, you can add some drama to your look!

What are your plans for tonight?  Regardless of what you do, I hope you have a fun and safe night!

See you in 2015!!

Good as Gold.

I love gold.  I love basically every color combination you can make with gold.  Red & gold for Christmas, black & gold for New Years, pink and gold for Valentine's Day... Give me all the gold goodies ;)

Which one is your favorite?

Put a Pop of Passion in Your Day With Paula Dorf

I haven't stopped using my Paula Dorf 2+1 Brows since I received it, so I was thrilled when given the opportunity to try out Paula Dorf's Cheek Color in Passion!

For the most part, I keep my makeup really natural.  My skin is super pale (which I am totally embracing!) so a good blush is a must for me if I don't want to look sickly.  Even on days where I skip most of my makeup products, I don't skip blush.  What I love about Passion is that it's the perfect shade - it's just enough color, but not overwhelming!  It gives me the right amount of glow.

The best part?  I've been given a discount code to share with y'all so that you can see how amazing it is for yourself.  Use the code "CHEEK" at checkout to receive 20% off any cheek color purchase!  (That makes it less than $20!)

What do you think?  Will you be trying out Paula Dorf's Passion Cheek Color?
If you have any questions, feel free to comment or shoot me an email!

XX,

SS

A big thank you to Paula Dorf Cosmetics for supplying the Cheek Color in Passion in exchange for a review.  All opinions are my own.

Hola de México!

Hello from Mexico!  After more delays than I can count, I arrived here last night - just in time to celebrate Christmas with my family in our new house.

Last night we explored downtown, and my stepmom and I went and had our hair done this morning to prepare for the huge family party tonight!

I have also decided that my New Years Resolution is to learn Spanish, even if it's just enough to get by. I can currently "mind my manners" in Spanish - please, thank you, I'm sorry (because I apologize to everyone for not being able to speak Spanish haha) - and I can find a bathroom. (Figuring out which one is the ladies room is a little hairier...)

What are your Christmas traditions? I hope you all have an amazing Christmas!

Xx,

SS

P.S - sorry for the poor formatting & low quality photos. I'm currently using the blogger app on my iPad in a little coffee shop.

Franny Friday

Time is flying by!  This will be the last Franny Friday of 2014!  Is it just me or has this year been faster than the rest?  Regardless, here is what Francis has been up to since our last FF.

Sick Fran Fran
Two Sundays ago, I went to bed early.  It was a big work week for me, and I knew I would be getting little sleep.  Little did I know that I would be up all night with a sick Francis.  She had a serious tummy ache, and it broke my heart.  The next day, she was exhausted, but fine!  Hopefully that is something we won't have to experience again.

Franny's New Collar

I was so excited to win the York River Traders giveaway on Alexandra Bee Blog!  When we went to pick Francis up at the pound, we realized we didn't have a collar, so we just purchased a cheap one there.  She was SO EXCITED to have this new collar!  It's like she knew that it was fancy.  (I also think she enjoys it because it looks like one of her daddy's belts that she ate...Oops!)  I'm tempted to be "one of those dog moms" and buy the matching belt.

Franny's New Couch

After living in my new apartment since June, I finally have a couch!  (Shout out to my Aunt Susie for the awesome Christmas gift!)  Of course, Francis thinks it is her new couch and sprawls out on it whenever she gets the chance.  She also enjoys being a dog and standing on the back of the couch sometimes... Oh, Franny!

What have y'all's pups been up to these past few weeks?  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Feeling Festive

If you read my Wild Card post, you would know that I am obsessed with this turtleneck!  I like to think of my style as classic with some quirks, and I just love festive things!  I wanted to show y'all how I styled the turtleneck to make it work appropriate.

I have given up on getting any kind of outdoor blog photos since it's dark by the time I get home from work, so these photos of me on my new couch will have to do.

| Turtleneck (on sale!) | Ruffled Skirt (similar) | Leggings (on sale!) | Flats | Mug similar & similar
| Lipstick |

What is your favorite festive piece for the holiday season?

24 Before 24: Update Nine

Y'all, we are almost there!  My 24th birthday is two months away!  Here's what I've been up to in the past month.

| 24 Before 24 | Update One | Update Two | Update Three | Update Four
| Update Five | Update Six | Update Seven | Update Eight |

  1. Learn calligraphy - So last night I decided to try my hand at some fancy writing for notes to go with my Secret Santa gift... I suck.  Badly.  But I am hoping to work on this after the new year!
  2. Devote myself to a devotional -  I haven't been very good about The Best Yes.  :(  I've thought about blogging as I read it, so maybe if I do that I will be more devoted.
  3. Spend a weekend in Asheville - One of my best friends graduated with her Masters this weekend, so I hope to go visit her and spend a day there!
  4. Regularly attend church - I am so embarrassed to admit that I still haven't gotten better about this.
  5. 100 Happy Days Challenge
  6. Utilize the shift key
  7. Become a devoted yogi - If stalking the sale rack at Lululemon counts, I'm doing great...
  8. Plan an amazing bridal shower
  9. Law school "stuff" - Working on a game plan!  A school about two hours away recently received their provisional accreditation.  I have been praying about it a lot, so I really feel like that was a "God thing" for me!
  10. Visit a "Paint your own pottery" studio
  11. Have a 3-year cancer free celebration
  12. Plan another sold out event - I can now mark this one off!  Wooohooo!  The gala I planned for my program at work was a success!
  13. Stay away from caffeine - I have been doing pretty good on this one!  I have had a couple of cheats, including a cup of black coffee on Thanksgiving (to counteract the multiple glasses of chard + Mexican after dinner drinks... oops!) and a glass of sweet tea on the day of my event.  Other than that, I have grown really fond of decaf black coffee, decaf green tea, and peppermint tea (which is naturally decaffeinated!)
  14. Do more Meals on Wheels routes - Well, haven't done that one...
  15. Add to my Lilly Pulitzer collection - I picked out some super cute Lilly earrings for Christmas!  If no one gets them for me, I'm going to get them for myself because they are only $28 and will go with SO MUCH.
  16. Continue improvements on the blog -  I now have "pinnable images" so if you see something you like, please pin it!
  17. Visit Nashville again - My boyfriend and I are looking into going for my 24th birthday!  We'd love to see a hockey game and go to my favorite restaurant - Demo's!
  18. Be a birthday fairy - I've not been perfect at this, but I'm proud of myself for what I have done so far!
  19. Go to a concert
  20. Plan a brunch - Birthday Brunch is a possibility!
  21. Find a diet that works - Current diet:  Eating any/all catering that arrives at work.  Our clients and members are so sweet and always spoiling us with food.  How can I say no to that?  Plus, I'm vacationing on the holidays, so I'm not even going to bother.  2015 is the year that I will be busting my butt to get healthy!  (Seriously, I have felt so arthritic the past month, and I think being more active would be helpful.)
  22. Put more effort into my professional appearance
  23. Keep smiling
  24. Continue doing things that scare me - I'm now on a board!  AND I'm spending Christmas with my dad this year... I have spent it with my mom every year since I was born.  I'm nervous, but thankful for the opportunity!
What have y'all been up to for the past month?  Thanks for following along with my journey!

Wild Cards

Sometimes when I go shopping, I go into a store that I wouldn't usually go to and end up finding "wild card" items.  Like something that I would never ever go shop for, but suddenly wonder how I spent my life without it, or something that I never knew existed, but wish I owned yesterday.  Here are some (super affordable) pieces that I found while shopping this weekend:

Lipstick Top -  I really loved the Lilly Pulitzer lipstick print, but never got my hands on any of it.  This top sent me into instant flashbacks.  I really liked the top when I tried it on, but it just wasn't a good fit for my body type!  It's on sale right now for $19.99, and I think it would be perfect to hold onto until Valentine's Day!  (Now that I've realized when I could wear it, I'm going to have to order it.  PS - I recommend going a size up!)

Double Tassel Necklace - At this point, it's no secret that I'm obsessed with tassels.  Throw this on to add some pizzazz to your little black dress!  Best part?  It's also on sale for under $20!

Flannel Boxer - I'm on a major gingham kick right now!  (I made my first trip to IKEA, and now I want everything in my apartment to be covered in gray and white gingham.)  I justify my cute pajama obsession since I have to take Fran out at night.  Not only are these adorable, but they are under $15!

Scottie Dog Patterned Turtleneck - This is silly, but I can't wait to wear it!  I paid less than $10 for it!  My mom really loved Scottie Dogs when I was little, so they were on my baby outfits, in my room decor, etc.  (We seriously loved Juicy Couture for the Scottie Dog!)  I plan on pairing it with red lips, a pleated black skirt with black tights, and my black Tory flats!

Lilly Pulitzer Pen with Highlighter Set -  These go perfectly with a Lilly planner... And they're only $12!  So glad that I stumbled across some this weekend.

Glitter Wristlet - I don't know about y'all, but I hate lugging my purse to parties.  I never feel safe hiding it under a table, and I feel silly having it hang on my arm the entire time.  That's why I like wristlets - you can keep them with you, or even tuck them into a large coat pocket!  I love that this one is super sparkly, comes in silver and gold, and is right under $20!

The Wet Brush - Once upon a time, I tweeted about how my hair has horrible tangles, and the people at Wet Brush tweeted me back telling me I should buy a Wet Brush.  Fast forward to this weekend when I realized that my good hairbrush was gone forever, I needed a new one, and here I was at Bed Bath and Beyond, staring at a Wet Brush.  Probably the best $9 ever spent.  It works MIRACLES.  My hair has a tendency to turn into one big tangle sometimes.  This pulled that tangle right out, and I didn't cry once.  I'm seriously getting them for all of my friends for Christmas!

Do y'all have any "wild card" items you ran into this weekend?  See anything on my list that you like?

SS

The Best Kind of Gift

Today's post won't involve a gift guide or anything material, but it will include a gift that you should give yourself.

I honestly dislike going places during the holidays.  I encounter so many rude and nasty people, and not to mention the crazy drivers who think getting a good parking spot at the mall is more important than the safety of those around them.  This weekend, I HAD to do some shopping.  I hadn't purchased any presents, and I needed to get a gift for my little brother to give our mom since I would be out of town on Christmas.  He had picked out a bracelet, so I went to pay for it.  While we were there, my boyfriend suggested we should look at rings so that he could get a feel for what I like.  BUT some rude, impatient holiday shopper had other plans.  He stood right on top of us and talked and coughed loudly, basically pushing into us.  Before we could even get a ring out of the case, it was unbearable, and we paid for the bracelet and left, because I felt myself becoming that ugly holiday shopper. (Seriously, I thought he & I might become stars of next season's Snapped!)

To calm myself down, I created a list of things that I loved that couldn't be bought at a store:
  • Putting foundation on a freshly moisturized face
  • A good cup of peppermint tea
  • Being able to write when inspiration strikes
  • Finding vibrant colored sticky notes in the office supply room
  • When the little boy that I babysit giggles
  • A compliment - extra points when it doesn't involve appearances
  • The adrenaline of post-event tear down
  • A good hair day
  • Francis attacking me every time I come home
  • A heart-felt note
Today, I challenge you to do the same - make a list of things that make you happy.  And when you're having a bad day and seconds away from becoming that horrible holiday shopper, pull out your list.

I would love to see what makes you happy, so feel free to leave it in the comments or use this as inspiration for your own post.

My Next Project

Now that my huge work event is behind me, I am excited to announce another project that I have been working on for months - A Little Seersucker Sass Newsletter!

My ultimate goal is to have it go out on the first of every month, include the month's most popular post, a guest post, whatever product I'm obsessed with, a giveaway, and maybe a tutorial of some sort?  The reason that I'm doing this post is because I would love to have your input!

I would love it if you would fill this survey out for me.  It's only 5 questions, but it would help me tremendously.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!  Any big plans?

Guest Post: The Little Drummer Boy

Y'all. I am up to my eyeballs right now in table linens.  My event is looking beautiful, and today is the big day.  I want to say a big thank you to Charm of the South for doing such a meaningful post to share with y'all today.  Please go check her out on twitter - @charmofdixie!

What a classic! Who doesn’t love listening to this song when getting into the Christmas spirit? It’s my mom’s absolute favorite so I know I hear it an extra lot.

I was listening to this song the other day and I got to really thinking about what the story is in the song. The Little Drummer Boy had nothing to give so he played his drum for Jesus. He used his God given talent. Wow! What an awesome gift.

This made me look at my own life. Have I been using the talents that God has given me to honor him? I get so caught up in life sometimes that I begin to use my talents for my own purposes rather than for what God wants me to use them for. At first I was upset with myself for letting this happen, then I realized how pumped I am to be able to start putting my talents back to use to honor my Father and how thankful I am to have the many talents I have been blessed with.

Merry Christmas and God Bless!

P.S.- This is my favorite version of The Little Drummer Boy and if you haven’t seen it.  I promise you it’s worth a watch!

Holiday Hostess Gifts

I never liked to show up to a party empty handed.  When I lived at home, my mom and I always kept a stash of goodies in a drawer to give as "emergency gifts."  We would pick up little things we found on a mega sale - nail polishes, small leather goods, candles, coasters, costume jewelry, the occasional umbrella - and keep them on hand just in case we got invited to a last minute birthday dinner or party.
If you share my "never show up empty handed" mentality, here are some ideas for all of the happy hostesses in your life:

1. Bottle of wine + wine tote   I love this adorable SCOUT Spirit Liftah from LPS Designs - cute, functional, & affordable.  I'm a big fan of giving gifts in reusable bags, so this is absolute perfection in my eyes.

2. Macarons   Macarons are such a cute & dainty little snack.  I found these online, but I'm super excited because next year I will be able to WALK to a macaron bakery from my house!  (Then everyone will be getting them as gifts...)

3. Wind & Willow Dip Sets  I worked in a small boutique for two years, and we sold Wind & Willow products.  They are super simple and taste amazing.  The Asiago & Roasted Garlic Dip, Homestyle Potato Soup Mix, and Chocolate Chip Cheeseball are my favorites.

4. A nice candle  I know, candles are a little cliche... but who doesn't love a good candle?  I think this Aromatique one seems really nice, and I own a set of the Old Factory Candles that I really enjoy.  TJ Maxx usually has a great unique & affordable selection.

5.  Leather Monogrammed Coasters  My favorite kinds of gifts are those that are practical, yet luxurious.  These completely embody that.    (PS -Pretty sure giving these guarantee you an invite for the next party ;) )

What is your "go-to" hostess gift?

My Christmas List

Growing up, I was expected to turn in my Christmas list between Halloween and Thanksgiving Day.  This year, I am a little behind.  (My aunt actually had to hound me for it... So sorry!)  I've learned that as I get older, my list shrinks.  But here are a  couple of practical things that I wouldn't mind having this year.

1. A Personal Trainer  A personal trainer my be a little excessive, but I really would love to have a gym membership!  I'm not very disciplined when it comes to working out alone, so I need someone yelling at encouraging me - whether it be a trainer or a class instructor.   (P.S. - I feel like I would be a lot more motivated if all of the barre classes weren't at 11:30 am on weekdays...)

2. Pillow for sitting in bed  As bad as it sounds, my bed often doubles as my desk after hours.  My back and neck will start to ache after sitting like this for too long.  I used to have one of these growing up since I read so much, and I really would like to have another!

3. A gold ring  I started wearing a thin gold band on my right pointer finger last fall.  However, I've only bought costume rings, which I have continued to have to replace due to discoloration of the ring and - worse - a green finger!  My Kate Spade Sailor's Knot is on it's last leg.  I would love to have a cheap (but real) thin gold band to replace it - potential replacements include this one,  or this one (it's not a thin gold band, but I honestly like it better than the other one.)

4. A vest  I am vest obsessed.  I love them all - furry, fleece, puffy, you name it!  I honestly can't decide which style I like best, but here are a few of my favorites - Monogrammed + Striped | Fleece | Puffy.

5. New Jacks  After 2 fun years together, my poor little platinum Jack Rogers have bit the dust.  I have contemplated getting a pair of Palm Beach Sandals, as I've heard they're more comfortable and easier to break in, but I have such a hard time "cheating" on my Jacks.  Suggestions?

But enough about me... What's on your Christmas list?
Hope you're having a great Monday!

Weekend Reading

I am so glad that I even survived last week... Who's with me?  I'm excited about a weekend full of babysitting, crafting for my event, and celebrating my little brother's birthday.  What are you getting into?!

Need some inspiration?  "I’m passing out glitter and war paint. ‘Cause we are those kind of people." - A great blog post by my friend Liz over at Lark and Bloom!

Looking for an awesome gift that's great when you need to give gifts in bulk?  Homemade Gift Idea:  Hot Cocoa in an Ornament  I'd like to make one of these to slip in everyone's Secret Santa bag!  (I'm awful with rules...)

Still Christmas shopping?  Look into these amazing personalized gifts.  Definitely the most heartfelt gift guide I've seen yet.

Trying to get the perfect waves for your hair?  Check out my tutorial!

What's at the top of my wishlist?  This Lilly vest.

Franny Friday

I'm just so excited that it's Franny Friday, but Francis is not amused...

It's here y'all!  It's Franny Friday!  I am also creating a fun gift guide for your four-legged friends... Can't leave those fur babies out!

But first... Here's a Francis update, told in pictures.

 | Key Chain:  Louis Vuitton | Bracelet:  Marley Lilly c/o | Watch:  Citizen |  Rings (top to bottom) : family heirloom,
Kate Spade, Kappa Delta | Lipstick:  MAC Russian Red |

I have really been trying to step my game up with quality Instagram photos lately.  I had the perfect idea that I was going to style a beautiful "essentials" photo, and it was going to be chic and perfect.  WRONG.  As soon as I get everything in place, Francis runs into the room & jumps on the bed.  Everything in the photo goes FLYING!

I bought a new lipstick, and before I tried it out, I kept moving the tube in Fran's face and telling her that I was going to put lipstick on her.  I didn't realize at the time that this would make Fran think it was a toy... Not only does she want to eat all of my lipsticks, but she also wants to lick it off of my face while I'm trying to be fab and take selfies.

We are also going through this really weird phase right now where Francis will lay anywhere BUT her bed.  Stay tuned for more pictures of Franny plopping down wherever...

And, here is the gift guide, full of cute seasonal goodies for your four-legged friend.  (I'm pretty sure I enjoy seasonal dog items more than my actual dog...Are you the same way?)

| Reindeer Toy | Bumble Toy | Snoozer Cozy Cave Pet Bed | Reindeer Sweater |
| Plaid Collar with Bow | Braided Wreath Dog Treat | Holiday Dress | Bandana |

Hope everyone has a happy Friday & wonderful weekend!  Have any weekend plans?

Event Ready Hair with KISS InstaWave

I work in events, and winter is my busy season.  My biggest event of the year takes place in December, and I have a full schedule of bridal showers, birthday parties, and work events.  As much as I would love to have my hair done for all of these events, especially the formal ones, it's not really feasible.  I don't have the time or money to sit in a salon chair for an hour and a half.  But here's where the KISS InstaWave comes in.

When used properly, KISS InstaWave is a fully automatic, tangle-free curler that instantly creates beautiful curls and waves.  It's easy to use, from any angle, with any hand.  (And in my opinion, much quicker than a traditional curling iron!)  I love that the curl dial gives you a choice between curling away from your face or curling in from your face.  (Tip:  By alternating which way it curls, you create the most natural looking curls.)  There are two heat settings - low and high - with a maximum temperature of 420 degrees.  And, if you're the queen of leaving your hot tools on like I tend to do, you'll love that it automatically shuts off after 90 minutes.  The product is only $59.99 (less than what one formal hairstyle will call you

Here is a little video tutorial I created to help you out:
(P.S. - It's a little rough... It's my first video ever!)

Here is a step-by-step direction guide, as well, although I definitely recommend a video tutorial.
• Hold InstaWave Vertically
• Place section of hair on to the InstaWave curling rod
• Touch the Curl Dial either left or right, and the InstaWave instantly and automatically catches and curls the hair.
• Hold for 5-10 seconds, holding longer for tighter curls and less for beachy waves (I usually go the full 10)
• Pull the InstaWave down vertically, letting hair out

What do you think?  Will you be giving the KISS InstaWave a try?!  Have any questions for me? :)

P.S. - I curled my hair with the InstaWave before going to bed last night, slept on the curls, and went to work without brushing them... It looks amazing this morning!

Gift Guide: The Type-A Bestie

I will admit, I am about as Type-A as they come.  I love it when everything is in order and in it's place!  This gift guide is for the busy gal in your life.  I know that I'll be using this to pick gifts for my friends!  (P.S. - I promise that this is an affordable gift guide!  The most expensive item is $40.)

Anything you like?  Anything I left off?

Christmas Decor

I am pretty traditional when it comes to decorating for Christmas - I don't like to do it until after Thanksgiving!  Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it's time to grab a few things to make my apartment ready for Christmas!  I'm not doing much because of Fran, but I am excited to add a few little things to my home, especially since my boyfriend and I will be living in the same city during the holidays this year.

Mud Pie Tagged Burlap Stocking, $14
I have a cute little counter, and I think it would be adorable to hang these from!  My favorite part of the stocking is the tag - perfect to write a name or a monogram on!

Oven Mitt, $11.20
Is it really a holiday if you don't spend waaaayyy too much time in the kitchen?  My mom's side of the family is Italian, and a lot of our holiday family time centers around the kitchen.  This isn't exactly "decor," but I like to hang my oven mitts on the bar on the stove, along with my dish towels.  (Also, when your apartment is 750 square feet, I'm convinced everything becomes decor!)

Merry Christmas Burlap Banner, $24.95
I want to keep with the burlap theme, and I think this is perfect for that!  This could also be a DIY project!

Boxwood Wreath, $69.95
I have been wanting a boxwood since I moved in to my apartment. I LOVE how festive this one is!!

Flameless Candle, $13.50
Who doesn't love a candle that looks like a sweater?!  It's like two of the most cozy things I can think of... combined!

Aside from these great items, I want to do two DIY's - one involving pinecones because I collected a TON of them in South Carolina, and one involving a papier mache deer head like the gorgeous one A Mrs. Among Magnolias always has featured on her blog.  If anyone knows where to find one, I would love to know!

So what about y'all?  Any Christmas decor you've been eying?  Any DIY decor projects in the works?

On My Radar

Having time off for the Thanksgiving holiday was just what I needed!  I used the time to just chill out and spend time with family, so no regularly scheduled blog post today.  However, there are some things on my radar that I want to share.

1. Napolese - I ate at Napolese on Black Friday with my family.  OMG.  I can't stop thinking about their food!  It is probably one of the most delicious meals that I have ever had in my life.  They have classics and unique options.  My boyfriend and I split a pepperoni pizza & a house salad, but also had some of my dad and stepmom's beet salad and the Big Cypress pizza.  SO GOOD.

2. Tofu - While at Napolese, I had pizza with tofu on it.  I tried tofu once in my vegetarian phase that lasted most of middle school, hated it, and never looked at it again.  However, grilled tofu is a whole different story!  I am definitely going to try more recipes with tofu, so if you have any tried and true that you'd like to share with me, I want to try them out!

3. Lilly Pulitzer - It's no secret that I love Lilly, so I was excited to go see all of the pieces I had been drooling over in person.  These are my favorites - Lilly Script Earrings (only $28!  I love that they're classic, and I could wear them with anything) | 5x5 Book (Am I crazy for wanting to tear pages out of this book to frame?) | Hera Lace Sheath Dress (The magenta is so vibrant, and I love lace.  PERFECT for events!) | Hanky Panky Thongs (couldn't find them online, but loved them in-store!)

4. This dress -  I have been looking for an event dress everywhere, and I can't stop thinking about this one.  While I would loveeee to have the magenta Lilly I've been ogling, it's not really in my budget at the moment.  However, this one has a good amount of "wow factor," is hot pink, and is about half the price.  What do you think?

What's on y'all's radars?  I'd love to know!
