8 Obsessions I Just Don't Understand

I have come to terms that there are just some obsessions that I constantly view on social media, but will never understand.  (Am I old now?)
And please excuse the lack of photos...  I wasn't trying to get sued by using copyrighted photos on an article like this!  Haha

E-Gents - I can't explain to you how much I dislike e-gents who spew off nonsensical quotes about how a woman should behave. But if you read this post that I wrote a few months ago, it's a start.

Blair Waldorf - I'm only on the first season of Gossip Girl, but I just really dislike her.  Like when girls say that they want to be just like her, I'm completely confused.  She has a great wardrobe, but she's so mean and manipulative.  Maybe I'll grow to love her, but not anytime soon.

Chuck Bass - Samesies.  I feel like Chuck is that skeevy guy that you meet at a bar that keeps trying to buy you a drink and won't take no for an answer and sends you nasty messages on Tinder.  When I see him on the screen, my skin crawls.

Orange is the New Black - Maybe I'm a prude, but this is not my show.  After seeing a bloody tampon being served to an inmate, I gave up on trying to enjoy it.  The storyline is funny, and I definitely identify with Piper, because I feel like that would be my life in jail.  I'm just not a fan of the unnecessary crudeness.

Finding a partner with married parents - This is another trend I've been seeing on twitter lately.  Apparently dating someone who's parents are divorced is a deal breaker.  I'm glad to know that the decisions of my parents change the way that you feel about me as a person.  Congrats, you are beyond shallow!

Jay Gatsby - Did the youth of America miss the memo that the Gatsby they're so obsessed with is a shady dude that dies in the end?  Why do you want to party like a criminal?  How about partying like KJP & Vickers?  They seem pretty classy.  (P.S. - The Great Gatsby will forever be my favorite book, so please don't think that I'm hating on it.)

"Bae" - Can this trend just die already?

Mugshots -  Why are there twitter accounts dedicated to tweeting photos of local mugshots?  And why do people retweet them?  I personally think that doing this shows such a lack of class.  And if you are going to do this, you should probably be a saint that has never done anything illegal.

Is there an obsession on this list that you completely disagree with?  Tell me why!  What obsessions don't you understand?

Also, please take a second to make sure that you aren't a "no-reply blogger," and that your email is associated with your account.  I'd love to start replying back to comments by email because I feel like there is so much more that can be said that way, but I feel horrible not being able to comment some of y'all back that way. :)

Happy Wednesday!

  1. So many of these are AMAZING! I'm a die hard GG fan and truly believe once you make it to later seasons - you will become fond of Chuck and Blair (or at the very least understand them). Love OITNB, but every episode I have a moral struggle on how controversial it is. Great post!

  2. I don't get OITNB either and "Bae" needs to go away.

  4. Haha I do love OITNB, but I totally understand why it wouldn't be for everyone it has a lot of crude material.

  5. I just can't deal with "bae." It drives me crazy. I've never really fully understood the Blair Waldorf craze, but then again I read the books and didn't watch the show. I was always more of a fan of Serena anyways!

  6. I'm SO with ya! I recently tried Orange is the New Black too, and I just knew there couldn't be a "happy ending" for that kind of show! As for Gatsby, it seriously bugs me too! Yes, his parties sound amazing, but no, he does not sound like my dream guy!

  7. This list made me smile! Totally agree with you on OITNB. I think it's fascinating that a show about a women's prison has gained so much popularity (and great!! Props to that) but I haven't watched it and don't plan to because of the mature content. And 100% agree with you about the Gatsby thing as well- haha!

  9. Yes to all of these... Especially the e-gents and "bae." If it weren't for twitter I wouldn't have heard of most of these, and that's partly why I just can't get into twitter and am picky about who I follow!

  10. I feel like the only person on the entire planet that doesn't get the whole Orange is the New Black thing. Honestly, I've never tried to watch it, but from what I've heard, I know it's not for me. I cannot, for the life of me, understand what peoples obsessions with it are! Glad to know I'm not alone!
