The Chronicles of No Conditioner

I interrupt what is usually a "Friday Favorites" post, to share with you about this weird thing that has occurred in my life.  We are having issues with the water in my house, and I've cut my shower time down to five minutes to avoid gross consequences.  (Thank goodness it is getting fixed today.)  (Also, thank God for pants because I've been unable to shave my legs.)  (And a big shout out to the inventor of dry shampoo.)  Because of my short shower time, I've not had time to condition my hair.

Anyone who knows me personally, and especially anyone who has ever lived with me, knows that I have to condition my hair.  Even when I lived on the sorority hall and had to use a community shower, I would get out for five mintues wrapped in a towel so that I could condition my hair.  But here I am, I haven't conditioned my hair since Saturday, and no one has died.  My hair is still as soft as it was, and it almost seems like it has become more manageable.  I have no idea how I feel about this!

I have tried to be all scientific and do research, but I basically keep getting those "No Poo" articles about people who have stopped using shampoo.  (No worries, friends, I am kind of freaked out by the thought that I haven't conditioned in a week, so I won't be switching to the gross sounding "no poo" lifestyle any time soon.)  Or recipes for home made conditioner (I'm too lazy to cook a meal, so "cooking" a conditioner probably won't happen, unless it is recommended to me by someone that I know.)

My questions for you is this - have you stopped using conditioner before?  I'd love to hear about your experience.  Also, what is your hair care routine?  (One thing I love about being a blogger is that it gives me an excuse to be nosy curious and ask questions like that!)

I hope that everyone has a wonderful, safe weekend, with beautiful weather!  I think that I'm going to break in my new yoga mat by doing yoga on the back porch.

  1. For a brief period when my hair was randomly getting greasy I swore off conditioner to see if that was the cause. I didn't really like it because it made my hair a little rougher (and harder to comb, haha). Have a great weekend!

  2. I agree with the other commenter, not conditioning my hair gives makes it rough and takes away the nice silky hair feel. I've only had to skip conditioning a few times in recent years when traveling or just forgetting to buy more. If you aren't able to condition at the moment maybe add some moroccan oil to your hair before it dries to help with moisturizing.

  3. Sometimes I haven't used conditioner, but I do notice that my hair is not as soft. That's great that yours seems to be ok without it though!

  4. The only time I don't use conditioner is when I'm going to be putting a product in to accentuate my natural curl, as it weights it down too much. But I rotate between the Redkin All Soft conditioner, and the L'oreal hair repair mask. It just feels so corse and unmanageable without them!
