Sunday Series: The Gift of Kindness

I have felt a little uninspired with my Sunday Series lately, which is awful.  Please forgive me.  But I am back.

With everything going on in my family, I have been shown the gift of kindness by so many people.  Friends from twitter and the blog community have prayed for myself and my family.  And any time that some small victory happens, I am overwhelmed with joy, because I know that God is hearing our prayers.  What a simple way to share the gift of kindness - pray for others & let them know that you are praying for them.

Tuesday night, my sweet friend Lo (aka @LOintheLonestar) sent me a Starbucks e-giftcard.  Times were so tense at my house.  I seriously cried when I got the email.  Her message was simple, "You deserve to treat yourself!  I love you & I'm praying for you."  Another one of my friends, Brackins (aka @BR4CKATTACK) surprised me with a Dunkin Donuts e-giftcard on Thursday.  I cried like a baby.  I have been so stressed and definitely not the best friend that I could be.  I have been consumed in my own life, and short and irritable with my friends at times.  Thank you, ladies, for giving me the gifts of kindness and coffee, and showing me the love of Jesus.

If everything is going as planned, as you read this, I am currently in New York to celebrate the life of my Great Aunt Catherine who passed away on Thursday.  Death is never any easy thing to process, but it helps to ease the sting when you have no doubt in your mind that the person who passed is in Heaven.  My Aunt Catherine was a feisty lady who was not affected by social norms.  She did as she pleased, but she also lived her life in a way to please The Lord.  She shared the gift of kindness in the name of Jesus with so many in her church and community.  While part of me is sad to see her leave her Earthly home, I know that she's reunited with her siblings and other family members, and probably belly laughing like she always did.

This week, I challenge you to really share the gift of kindness with those around you.

"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil."
- Luke 6:35

God Bless,
SS
