Event Attire

It was recently suggested by Kristin at The Dixie Daisy that I share what I wear to work events.  A large portion of my job is planning events, and because I'm at a non-profit, I tend to help work events for other programs, as well as attend quite a few.  Dressing for events while working at them can be challenging - you need to look like the belle of the ball, but be in something practical enough to run and handle a catering crisis.

Training Session
Work - training event

On days that we're providing a training session, I try to look extremely professional.  I choose flats over heels in case I need to run (literally) and grab something.  I also try to wear minimal jewelry so that I won't be bothered by it.

Casual Event

J. Crew mini-skirts and Jack Rogers are staples in my wardrobe.  I have multiples of each!  This is a look similar to what I wear when I go to a casual event after work.

Not-too-formal

Not-so-formal work event

For work events that aren't too formal, I like to pull out a Lilly Pulitzer dress!  It's a great conversation starter and helps me to stand out in a sea of black and neutrals!

Gala Galm

Gala glam

My favorite things about galas is wearing something a little different than what everyone else is wearing.  For most work galas, attendees wear short silk dresses and prom-esque jewelry.  I always try to wear something long and elegant with minimal jewelry.  This is similar to what I wore for my last work gala!

What are your favorite things to wear to events?  Any suggestions for me?  I'm always looking for new ideas!

Thanks again to Kristin for the idea!

  1. You're very welcome, glad I could help! I love all of these :) I like the look of the J. Crew mini skirts, but I'm worried they'll look too short on me because I have long legs!

    1. Thank you :) I am envious! I have short little legs with a long torso & usually wear the skirts high waisted. You never know until you try one on! The waist band is elastic, so it allows you to sit the skirt as high or low on your body as you want!

  3. LOVE these looks! :) I'm obsessed with the sandals in the last look, I got some just like it from Aldo...and it was a huge step for me. Typically I live in my Jacks, but having a dressy option is so so great :)

    1. Thank you!! I have the same issue -- it took everything in me to wear something besides Jacks under my dress. The weather has been so beautiful here the past two days that I can't wait to break in my new monogrammed pair!

  6. Wow so jealous you have so many fab. work events! I think you nailed it with each outfit.

For formals, I don't typically wear long dresses because I am so short and I hate the way they look.

What are your thoughts on fun colored nails in professional atmosphere? I'd love your input.

    1. You are too sweet! I am nothing special, it just comes with the job and my community involvement! Haha.

As for fun colored nails in a professional atmosphere, I say go for it! It's such a subtle way to express yourself :) I would definitely put a little extra effort into keeping them looking fresh though, because chips and peels will be much more noticeable with bright colors.

      Have a happy Wednesday!

    1. That means a lot coming from someone who always has such cute outfits, so thank you :) Monogrammed necklaces are such a perfect touch. They go with practically anything! Beware... monogrammed accessories can become addicting ;)
